U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor told college students in New York City that she sometimes feels great turmoil inside when she is hearing arguments on the bench, but works hard to keep her emotions and personal biases in check. [ ]
You cant do human activity and judging is a human activity without having human emotions, she told the crowd at the LeFrak Concert Hall. The sense of how you deal with it is to acknowledge it. I look at it, examine it, try to figure out the effect its having, and then try to adjust my behavior in accordance.
When addressing a question about minority women in leadership roles, Sotomayor said societal gender separation starts from a very young age whether we recognize it or not. Women are taught to have softer voices or to not be as engaged in the classroom, she said.

As for controlling your emotions, its called not getting involved. Your only job is to asses the basic facts of the case and read the text & history of the WRITTEN law to apply it in the same exact way it was done when the law was written.
Law is either consistently applied in all cases or its not the rule of law but the rule of men in black robes.
A judge cannot channel emotionally or logically the judgement of congress of any period, and certainly not that of the states 220 years ago.
All they can do is read what was written, and repeat what was done.
that’s why you’re not a good pick to be a judge at all.

Sotomayor is the most consistently hostile Justice on the Supreme Court towards religious liberty. Ginsberg comes close, but Sotomayor is more predictably hostile.
