I looked...the source wasn't the Onion. Really.

“Chicago fared best in digital security, jumping 12 places in the rankings and following just Tokyo and Singapore. The report gave props to an initiative in cybersecurity training through local colleges and the Department of Defense that Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced in January.”
This, so called, report sounds absolutely stupid with no real basis in real world scenarios.
They have “digital security” because Rahmboy gives a course on using letters AND numbers on their passwords? BS.

Safe, if you’re just now leaving ISIS due to not getting paid in six months.

That must be a very short list indeed comprising of the capital of Venezuela, Bagdad, Somalia, Honduras, Acupulco.

Ha ha.
Safe means "digital security"?
Every chance I get to NOT go to Chicago (or New York, or Birmingham, or Detroit, or anywhere in New Jersey), I take it.

The article sounds like actual violent crime statistics is only one of many factors to calculate the index. All anti-crime measures and education are moot if actual violent crime level is high, especially murder.
There are many questionable outfits producing an index to rank countries on everything, based on dubious methods. Best to ignore them. A bunch of international busybodies.

Obviously you didn’t see which cities were #20 through #60!
To: markomalley
Did Rahm Emanuel commission this study?

I will ask you to recheck the source
To: markomalley
Well if you stay out of the black areas it’s certainly safer than, say, London.

Geez, the Fake News flood has really accelerated lately. Reminds me of how inflationary policies slide into hyperinflation... At some point, people abandon the fiat money and there's a flight into real goods- return to commodity money and direct barter.
Will call them "Fiat News," moving forward.
