“...would drive a wedge between Europe and the US.” The wedge between the USA and Western Europe has been there for more than two decades. At every turn the EU bureaucrats have opposed the US. France is a sometime and very reluctant friend. NATO is a sham. London has given way to Londonistan and its Lord Mayor is a Yankeephobe. Ireland issues a stamp commemorating Che Guevara. Italy and Spain don’t count. Etc., etc., etc. When you hear the wedge argument, scrutinize carefully the proponent. Likely it is a decadent east coast elitist who enjoys hobnobbing with Eurotrash.
