So beyond the fake news aspect of this about it having "prompted a wave of condemnation from both sides of the aisle", I would suggest the same response that I regularly give a certain family member that is near and dear to me.... "I was just asking a question...."
In our house that license has already been pulled. We don’t watch their crap.
President Trump is right that NBC is mostly fake news. They do lie. The coverup of Weinstein (their own reporter had to publish the story in The New Yorker) is proof of that. So is what they did to the George Zimmerman tape a few years ago (in the Trayvon Martin incident.) So the president is right that NBC is dishonest and fake.
However, do you remember when 0bama was harassing reporters like James Rosen, Sharyl Atkisson, some AP reporters, and others? We all rightly condemned it. And do you remember when he wanted to shut down talk radio and license journalists? We all rightly condemned this a a threat to the First Amendment.
It’s one thing for Donald J. Trump, developer, to suggest that NBC should be shut down. It’s another thing for the President of the United States, who is sworn to uphold the Constitution.
Let’s assume that the president is right, that this story is false — which I suspect it is. Does that mean NBC’s “license should be pulled”?
For one thing, NBC or any other network doesn’t have a broadcast license, the affiliates do. Your local NBC station is licensed to broadcast, not NBC. Stations, not networks. You would have to go after the broadcast licenses of the stations individually.
For another, licensing journalists is a dangerous concept. it enables the government to exercise a degree of control that at least flirts with trampling all over the First Amendment. And then what happens when the other side is back in power? Do you want the government licensing Rush Limbaugh (or refusing to do so)?
As a constitutionalist, I am wary of anything that smacks of the government controlling the media — even when it’s a government I like. I think that is dangerous and violates the First Amendment.
As a matter of principle, I’m not even sure the government ought to be licensing individual stations. Beyond playing traffic cop to make sure one station’s transmissions don’t interfere with another station’s transmissions, I don’t really want the government involved at all. (Some of that may be related to the fact that I don’t trust government as far as I can throw a piano.)
I sympathize with President Trump’s efforts to expose the bias, dishonesty, and fakery of the so-called “mainstream” media — and believe me, it’s rampant — and NBC is one of the worst offenders. This exposure is important. But you can’t have the government threatening to use its power to shut down journalists it doesn’t like.
The same NBC that buried the Weinstein story?
The same NBC that purposely released a decade old tape of Private Citizen Donald Trump having a private conversation with Billy Bush right before the 2016 Election in order to help Hillary Clinton?
hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha...
It’s more like gossip..insane crazy gossip..rather than news.
If the FCC receives tens of thousands of complaints against locally owned NBC affiliates they're going to have to (a) investigate and (b) take action.
Now's the time to organize the campaign against NBC Affiliates, IMO. Note that NBC Affiliates are NOT owned by the NBC "Network" they are typically either locally owned (as in the case of small markets) or Corporate owned by some media conglomerate.
It's primarily the conglomerates that need to be taken down IMO. This consolidation across the "news and media industry" that's been going on for decades is why we see the heavy bias we do in the news.
you are correct. The fake news can be said to be a violation of national security.
Those NBC owned broadcast stations and the other independently owned stations are purveyors of the security breech and responsible for their broadcast content. Their license to the air waves can be lifted
“...But you cant have the government threatening to use its power to shut down journalists it doesnt like.”
That is true. But on balance, we DO HAVE a “media” that IS TRYING to take down a President that they do not like. Equally egregious.
