Young people, even young people that get into West Point, are prone to making mistakes. This kid made a mistake. He’ll probably suffer the consequences of that mistake for the rest of his life. I don’t think it deserves national attention though. perhaps I’m a tad sympathetic because I too made some mistakes as a young man. I thank God none of those youthful indiscretions became matters of national attention. They did not go unnoticed by the drill sergeants however.
A mistake? Seems too well thought out and deliberate. No sympathy from me.
Did any of your ‘youthful indiscretions’ involve being admitted to West Point as an avowed Communist? Did they involve swearing an oath to a country you wish to see die and being given a Commission as an Officer in that county’s military?
We’re not talking about getting your girlfriend pregnant or stealing car radios or getting a DUI... We’re talking about the security of the United States here.
RC,
As an ‘old grad’ I see it somewhat differently. It is not a matter that a young man may have made a mistake, it is the degradation of standards at the academy that troubles me. With the paper trail that exists, there is no way he should have ever graduated let alone been put in charge of a platoon of soldiers. I know that this mess troubles many more old grads than just me. This needs to be fully and truthfully addressed ASAP.
This is way past making a mistake. He is an ideologue, and dangerous to the country
The only way this stops is to stand up to every battle the left decides to come at us with, otherwise, we lose an inch every day to them.
Take the recent news that the Boy Scouts of America will now admit girls to their ranks. Do you think that decision "just happened" without any previous attacks on the institution in the last 20 years? It's a result of the chipping away at their culture and now we have this decision, which is more or less considered acceptable today by most however - would not have even been considered a normal possibility by our grandfathers.
And neither would a West Point cadet openly espousing his love of Che Guevara and Communism.
No.
His attitude, his ultimate loyalty is to the enemy. In battle, who will he attack? How will he attack, how will he deploy his forces? How many will he kill - on our side?
HE WILL KILL American soldiers. NO, he did not “make a mistake.” He MUST be removed. Imprisoned for the duration of his “obligated service”? It is appropriate.
This not “a mistake”.
This was someone who believed in communist ideology and hated America.
This is someone who should never have been allowed into West Point.
