I dont remember having to take a high school exit exam. You either had the grades/credits to graduate or you didnt. I knew a few people who didnt and had to go back and get the credits As long as they did it before they aged out at 19 they were good.
Graduating should be about your grades not whether or not you pass some stupid test.
I went to HS and College with Educated Idiots much like yourself. They all had High GPA but could pass a basic civics test.

From the article, the test was ditched because is consisted of “rote learning” principles rather than common core “critical thinking”. This is what I’m currently going through with my 5th grader. His progress is measured by traditional english and math tests, while the classwork is a 60/40 combination of common core/traditional. Drives me nuts.
We switched schools this year to a higher rated one and I was shocked when he was given an actual math book. He has been learning from a salad of internet worksheets since 1st grade.
I’d agree that a single test shouldn’t determine pass or fail. An aggregate score of the tests over the school year should at least weigh heavily.
You went to school when Fs were given. Today’s schools don’t give Fs. Failing grades hurt kids, don’cha know. At least the exit exams were still in effect. Now that the exit exams are too hurtful, there’s nothing. Why bother with school?
