Schuck was the maintenance worker who first told hotel security to call the police. The link above has a link to the actual audio and you can hear some of the first shots fired in it.

How are those two guys not shredded after he shot at them down a hallway?

After reading that link it sounds like some of the earlier reports mixed up the building engineer with the unarmed security guard.

To me Schuck makes it clear that he is saying the shooting of the crowd happened after the shooter fired on him and the security guard.

Schuck calmly called for police over his radio. The gunman eventually turned his attention to the country festival taking place below him outside.
