That’s the party line in Hollywood regarding Harvey Weinstein, the once-powerful producer revealed as a decades-long sexual predator.
Monday morning — five days after the New York Times exposé and hours after Weinstein was fired from his company — Meryl Streep, Hollywood’s grande dame, issued a statement.
“Not everybody knew,” Streep said in part. “I didn’t know.” She called Weinstein’s alleged behavior “disgraceful” and “appalling.”
“And if everybody knew,” she continued, “I don’t believe that all the investigative reporters in the entertainment and the hard news media would have neglected for decades to write about it.”
That last claim isn’t just unfair; it’s incorrect. In the wake of Thursday’s exposé, multiple high-profile journalists reported their own attempts over decades to break the story. On The Cut, Rebecca Traister wrote that in 2000, while covering a pre-election party Weinstein was throwing, Weinstein called her a “c–t” in response to a question he didn’t like, then threw another reporter down a flight of stairs and dragged him outside in a headlock. Such was Weinstein’s power, Traister wrote, that no other reporters covered the incident and no photos ever appeared.
Veteran Hollywood reporter Kim Masters wrote that she had a confrontation with Weinstein over this very issue 20 years ago. Sharon Waxman wrote that she tried to break the story in 2004, but after pressure from Weinstein and calls from defenders Russell Crowe and Matt Damon, the Times softened and buried it.

The Left in general and the Democrats in particular stink of tribalism and hypocrisy, and it isn't "middle America" that they alienate, it's anyone with a sense of decency.
To all the women who didn’t say anything: The standard that you walk past is the standard that you accept, so don’t be complaining about what he did now. Especially the ones that are halfway to being a billionaire now, you accepted the terms and did business his way.
And who is believing that the actors are so shocked by this. This isn’t an anomaly in Hollywood, this is SOP. The casting couch is the oldest running snicker in Hollywood. The only thing that predates it is the term “World’s oldest profession”.

Yep, not just hang but use to further her political career, and all of Hollywood puts her on a pedestal as some kind of messiah of feminism. Weinstein was I believe the biggest donor to Hillary and Obama, at least the one guy who held the biggest fundraisers for both of them, all the leftist Hollywood stars would go to these fundraisers in New York city. These are the same people who lost their sh*t over Trumps “p*ssy tape” acting all shocked and disgusted, meanwhile they put rape enabler Hillary on a pedestal and are STILL putting her on a pedestal. Just last week they had this absolutely pathetic display on the Jimmy Fallon show of these female stars crying while reading praises of Hillary while Hillary was THERE! Have you seen this yet?

No joke. Consider the combined billion dollars that they got out of the industry as an out-of-court settlement. Their complaints ring hollow when they’re making $30 million off a movie that the writer got paid few hundred grand and the production crew aren’t even making enough to live subsistence in California.

Completely correct. But they essentially “looked the other way” because Weinstein was such a prominent fundraiser for the Democrats.
