Which brings us, finally, to the other reason the Weinstein story came out now: Because the court over which Bill Clinton once presided, a court in which Weinstein was one part jester, one part exchequer, and one part executioner, no longer exists.

A thought experiment: Would the Weinstein story have been published if Hillary Clinton had won the presidency? No, and not because he is a big Democratic fundraiser. It’s because if the story was published during the course of a Hillary Clinton presidency, it wouldn’t have really been about Harvey Weinstein. Harvey would have been seen as a proxy for the president’s husband and it would have embarrassed the president, the first female president.

Hate to say it but jerks like Harvey Weinstein are the rule rather that the exception in Hollywood. I knocked around La-La Land on and off for a decade or so, never making the A-list grade level to be effected by high schmucks of Harvey's ilk, but the folks in the industry know what is what and they talk about it amongst themselves mostly in knowing whispers with a sly wink and a nod--

They make inside jokes about it and in some perverse way they accept it as just another part of the legend of Hollywood to be endured as part of paying their dues to be in Tinseltown and loved by their peers.

Hollywood of the 1930s to the 1960s was no stranger to such going-ons as it was mostly shut up, bought off or covered over to protect the so-called integrity of the film industry, but in fact, it was to protect the profits. However, the decline of the Majors' power and the Studio System disappearing brought an end to the near total silence of the ugly side of those in authority to give the green light to a film or, as they say, end it by putting it in 'Turn Around."

Even at my lower level, I was propositioned by both male and females in positions to get my writing or acting nearer to being bought or me cast in a part. However, I drew the line at guys-- I like females, period!

Yet I cannot say in total truth I did not say yes to a few of the fairer sex in authority that I found attractive or advantageous to my 'Show Biz' career.

Hey, I was young and male in the 1970s and 80s, so no apologies for me being me.

Now, the point to my post is that when certain folks have a position of power, many misuse it and if there are slimy places in their character, that will always come through. In my experience of 70 years, the most of these are of the Liberal Persuasion because what most of what we Conservatives think of as 'vice' or immoral is considered just fine or a way of life to those Left Wingers.

Yet do not think our side is so clean. This left hand side of humanity also affects Conservative Republicans, Libertarians and Independants just as well but the percentage is much lower that the 90% plus on the left side.

Now, buy me another round... or ten and I'll dish the real dirt!
