Former US Pres. Carter Wishes to Visit N. Korea and Meet Kim Jong-un

Write : 2017-10-09 13:34:11 Update : 2017-10-09 16:33:09

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter reportedly wishes to visit North Korea and meet leader Kim Jong-un to discuss North Korea’s nuclear programs.

Park Han-shik,, a professor emeritus at University of Georgia who is an expert on North Korea, told Yonhap News Sunday Carter wants to play a role in resolving the serious situation, as he did during the Clinton administration in 1994.

Park said that Carter wrote a recent editorial in the Washington Post to convey to Pyongyang his wish to visit.

The piece suggested sending a high-level U.S. delegation to Pyongyang for peace talks. Park said the North has not responded yet.

Park says U.S. President Donald Trump has rejected several offers by Carter to travel to Pyongyang, saying the situation is one for the present administration to handle, not a past president.

Where did this dumbass go that upset Bill Clinton so much? Was it Cuba?

I vaguely remember telling him that something was going to happen and he better get out of there before he becomes a hostage.

‘Can’t wait for Trump to tweet him on this.’

I would love that, but I wonder. Unlike Obama, presidents don’t normally criticize each other.

I think President Trump may stay silent on this ...

Unless he thinks President Carter may be endangering national security. That would be a game-changer.

"But President Bill Clinton went along with it. He held the first direct talks with North Korea in 40 years and agreed to send $4 billion in energy aid to the country’s “hard-line Communist leadership,” as the Times described them, in exchange for a commitment to freeze and dismantle its nuclear weapons development program."

Without that $4billion that country would have disintegrated decades ago. In 1994 the whole country was probably not worth that much.

‘Tiger, what do you think? My initial thought is that Trump MIGHT be happy to employ Jimmy Carter in an overture. There really seems to be no downside, is there? If Carter gets a major concession (however improbable it may be), then it is a genius masterstroke of diplomacy using a former Demon Rat president. If it fails (highly likely), Trump can say he even let Mr. Peacemaker himself give it a chance.’

Now that is a very intriguing idea. After all, President Trump is the master of the deal. I like this thought, SoFloFreeper!

We’ve seen this movie before. Carter goes out there, meets with XX, gets wined and dined, and (like magic) announces an agreement that keeps the peace. Except that its worthless to all parties but NK.

Trump should tell Carter “NO!” and arrest his sorry a$$ if he tries to go it alone.

Well, I didn’t know that. Excellent. And yeah, I imagine no American commercial plane would go near NK airspace.

Jimmy Carter is almost single-handedly responsible for North Korea having a nuclear weapons capability. His intervention prevented Clinton from doing what pretty much every military and security expert was advising him to do in 1994... And that advice was to carry out a strategic and limited military strike on North Korea’s fledgling nuclear program.

Jimmy showed up in North Korea unannounced and negotiated an end to their nuclear weapons program that included 4 billion in aid from the US as an enticement for them to abandon nuclear weapons.... And that same aid was most likely funnelled toward the advancement of their nuclear program rather than the elimination of it.

Jimmy Carter and his appeasement stances have resulted tens of thousands of deaths from Latin America to Iran and now a rogue nation with a lunatic leader has the capability to kill millions, all because of Jimmy Carter and his ‘peaceful’ intervention in 1994.

Let him go to North Korea... Hopefully they will keep him as a prisoner and he can meet the same fate that North Koreans themselves face when being held in prison. Forced labour, or even better... Execution by anti-aircraft gun.

Wow. As a mother of two (a 22 year-old son and 18 year-old daughter), I cannot imagine saying something like this.

It makes me feel bad for our former president.

What woman says that in public?

That did make me laugh :) and I had some jokes I thought of, but then I certainly feel bad for the young man who died, so I won’t do it.
