That’s pretty radical for SNL but I still won’t watch the show. Mostly just imsults conservative values.
after a tragedy they are decent, like after 9/11
I guess I’ve just become hypercritical. He was on stage when the shots started, yet his words were ambiguous enough that when married with song choice, he might just be speaking of Tom Petty passing away.
He cancels his Los Angeles area concerts to mourn those who have passed, yet cold opens SNL.
Just seems to me that there’s something wrong with all of this.
The song sounds hollow when done on SNL. I watched a few minutes of the clip because I never watch SNL anymore. Such a shame. I was right there when the show started and was hilarious. The political stuff was funny too because it wasn’t agenda driven. Now it’s run by a bunch of vicious America haters with disjointed agendas. As is sports, Hollywood and most of the music industry in general.
After several years I read somewhere that SNL had decided to tack back to the center politically so I decided to try it. Made it to the weekend update before I turned it off....same liberal horsesh!t!!!
I agree that the Tom Petty song seemed like an odd juxtaposition since his death had nothing to do with Las Vegas. However, I don’t blame Jason Aldean for doing SNL. He was a victim of the shooting even if he wasn’t physically injured. He saw his fans being murdered. He has probably been in shock for the last week.
No criticism intended, I would like to know what Aldean and his band & crew did after he ran off the stage. Did they try to help shooting victims? Sheltered in their tour bus or semi’s? Both? He needs to be interviewed and those questions asked.

He’s a performer, not a medic. They always get the performers off stage ASAP. Same with the Paris night club shooting, the performers were whisked off stage, and weren’t expected to turn into first responders. Those guys on stage can be sitting ducks if a terrorist makes a concerted effort to kill them. Your expectations are a false premise to begin with.
His singing is painfully out of tune.
From the clips I saw on Fox this AM this cover sucked big time. Even if competently performed(and it wasn’t)the tune had no business EVER being played on SNL or any other NBC/Comcast owned outlet. EVER.
And I don’t care what anyone says if the PA system was working Aldean, or anyone else on stage, owed it to the crowd to shout “RUN! LEAVE THE AREA IMMEDIATLY!” before they left the stage.
The Aldean people didn’t do what they should have done.
I don’t see anything “decent” about it. They were simply trying to exploit the massacre for ratings. I also find it offensive that the appearance led off with a Tom Petty song - as if the death of an old rock star is somehow more important than the murder of 58 people.
Who is Jason Aldeen?
NBC did air Buck Henry with music guest Tom Petty from 10 to 11 pm from November 10, 1979.
Not sure Aldean’s appearance was promoted.
Fox & Friends Dean Cain did show Weekend Update’s anti gun comments.
Not a false premise. Plenty of examples of celebrities coming to the aid of ordinary people in emergencies (e.g., Harrison Ford, Cam Newton). Many fans with no first responder training aided their fellow concertgoers. Of course, Aldean and his band & crew should not have remained on stage, but perhaps behind it they did something to assist the patrons/victims — provide shelter in/with their vehicles, help people evacuate to safe areas or hospitals. I would be disappointed if they mounted up and drove away. Aldean’s life and those of his entourage are no more valuable than anyone else’s.
