Today I'm counting my blessings.
My wife Colleen, my daughter Ashley and I are huge country & western fans.
We go to lots of outdoor concerts and Country Music Association awards shows.
In fact, we were planning to attend the Route 91 Harvest Festival concert on Sunday night and stay at the spectacular Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
In the end, we decided not to attend.
Otherwise, we might have been among the 59 killed and hundreds wounded by the monster who strafed the crowd of 22,000 from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel.
Many worried friends who expected us to be at the music festival - and sitting upfront -- called or texted us to make sure we were alright.
We were lucky we stayed home in LA. But we were touched by what happened in Vegas. We know country music fans who were there and we know people who know some of the victims.
While I counted my blessings, I watched in anger as yet another terrible murderous event became an overnight political opportunity for gun-hating liberals.
Early on I tweeted, "Please don't let this become a political issue, because it's not."But by Monday morning the usual cries for more and tougher gun control laws were coming from the left and the liberal media.
Early calls for silencers to be outlawed were replaced by calls to outlaw "bump stocks," which the killer used so he could shoot his arsenal of semi-automatic weapons at a faster rate.
This week's knee-jerk calls for more laws to be passed as a way to prevent future mass murders reminded me again of what I was told right after my father was shot on March 30, 1981.
I remember asking the agent in charge of my Secret Service detail, "How can this happen with all the security around my father and family? How do you let this happen?"
The agent said, "Michael, as you know, we train 24/7 to protect you and your family. But one thing we can't train for is the crazies."
That's apparently what we're looking at in Las Vegas - a lone depraved killer intent on doing as much harm to innocent people as he could.
He was never on anyone's radar.
He bought his huge cache of weapons and ammunition legally.
He'd never been in trouble with police and didn't have known psychological problems.
We don't know why he did the terrible things he did - not yet. But sometimes with a crazy man there is no why and no reason.
All the new gun-control laws liberals can dream up will not stop future crazies intent on attacking concerts, ball parks or suburban malls.
The truth is, in the aftermath of the Vegas tragedy we should not look to the government and politicians to "fix" things.
It will be the private sector that will make another attack on innocents from the windows of a 32nd floor hotel room unlikely or impossible.
Hotels in Vegas and around the world already are thinking of ways to beef up their security.
They'll hire more armed guards. They'll put alarms on their windows and have guards outside looking up at them.
Hotels will do whatever they need to do and spend whatever they need to spend to protect their customers and assure the public it's safe to stay in Vegas or wherever else.
Trust me, an evil man with ten suitcases of guns isn't going to check into the Mandalay Bay ever again without being stopped.
Hotels will make it safer to come to Vegas and gamble your money away, not a political opportunist like Chuck Schumer.
That part of the article I don't buy. I believe there is more to this that TPTB don't want to have known-whether it's to flush out other parties, too embarrassing a narrative, or even as dark and tin foil as a Deep State black op.
It’s pretty obvious that the guy is a gun runner .
He was probably selling weapons to ISIS kind of like
Ambassador Stevens . There was obviously someone in the connecting room that closed and locked the door behind him and left .
He didn’t become a millionaire gambling or working what he had worked before . The casino is how to launder money.
It’s also how dirty cops launder money .
There was more than one shooter and he probably wasn’t even one of them . ISIS probably came to buy guns from him and they killed him . At least one of them was killed by the police shooting at one of the other hotels , listen to the recording from the police scanner.
Watch the videos people release there was a woman telling people to leave that they were going to die . He wasn’t alone and someone helped get those guns . Some hotel staff had to know he had them in there . Listen to the videos and it’s clear that there are different types of weapons being fired at the same time and they have clear different sounds.
We are being lied to.
The question is who is he running guns for ? Himself or someone else . It’s no doubt who the intended buyer was considering they are bragging about in Arabic all over the place.
Is this another fast and furious or is it a private guy making his own fast and furious. They found tannerite in house and car and amonium nitrate in his car .
If this guy was a Republican you would be hearing about it nonstop . You hear nothing because they guy is a lefty messed up with muslims . Instead you are hearing the cover , the democratic talking points about guns.
Oh we are clearly being lied to and it looks like that is why the sheriff is sorta dropping hints.
I don’t think you know what you are talking about. The guy is burning in hell, so he can’t be a gun runner. He killed 58 innocent people and would have killed a lot more.
How do you know that he is the one who shot those people ?
There was more than one shooter , you can hear different weapons being shot at the same time on the videos.
Oh gun runner , mass murderer or priest it doesn’t matter if he isn’t trusting Jesus to save him hell is where he is at .
Sorry, Michael. No lone depraved killer. The only reason for the multiplicity of weapons used and found in that hotel room was the multiplicity of professional marksmen needed to fire them all in 10 minutes.
A planned blitzkrieg on thousands of innocent Trump supporters who were corralled in a killing zone with locked gates and who couldn't escape. Hitler's SS in Germany could not have done it any better.
Paddock was the patsy who was murdered in the executive suite of a suborned and complicit hotel, whose body was left at the scene to look like a suicide. You can bet your ass Paddock wasn't the shooter. Americans wake the hell up, you are all being taken to the cleaners in spades on this one.
This one is TWA Flight 800 on steroids. It's 911 on steroids. They learned how to lie to us on that one. And they also learned we would believe them.
I saw video of the carnage in Sunday's killing field. Horrific. The spilled blood and maimed and ruined bodies of innocents strewn everywhere on the blood-soaked ground.
This one is the FBI and the CIA arming the Left to jump start the physical elimination of the Right in America. Obama decreed to the alphabets the only terrorists are domestic ones. (And he promised us a citizen "army" that would rival local police departments in scope.) Well those terrorists are us. The 65 million Americans on the Right who voted for Trump. And the "citizen army" Obama promised us? Think ANTIFA.
The deep state is out of control and cannot be stopped. It has penetrated and strangled our inner core of government. Its goal after getting all the guns out of our hands is our utter existential destruction. We survived 242 years. A good run while it lasted.
