The map shows the escape route. The hammer was for breaking the drywall for access to the stairwell, not the windows. The bullets broke the windows. Bet the inner wall of the suite was already holed and he was waiting to break through the second at the right time. He had block the stairway door to cut off pursuit. If he was a patsy, then the client used that escape route and the police are not talking in hopes of catching him.
I was thinking about that. But he must have known that if the cops were in the corridor they would be in the stairwell as well. Also, I would have thought the walls of the stairwells to meet fire code would be concrete block or something more fire-resistant than drywall.
Would not all from the hotel exits be blocked?
Oh good grief. Too long a day. That was supposed to be:
Would not all exits from the hotel be blocked?
Hotel stairwells of this type are fire rated, which means there was a wall of block or poured/prefab concrete between the room and the stairwell. He could not possibly hole through that wall with the hammer that we have seen in the photos. Jackhammer or hilti-gun, maybe; but not that hammer.
