I have the basic flip-phone: no internet, no camera, no texting. My intent was to use it for emergencies only, but I will answer calls only from the half-dozen or so people who have my number and whose numbers I recognize. My wife and I have the same types of phones with a combined 500 minutes (of which we use an combined average of about 50 minutes per month).
My flip phone died after well over a decade of use like yours.
I got a new fishing pram, and when I stepped into it alongside a dock. The phone, the pram and a lot of gear went 12 feet under. Most was recovered, and even with the dry rice treatment the phone never recovered.
I got a full refund on the pram after I returned it to the dealer with some photos of the sinking from others. Turned out someone during the construction, probably on drugs forgot to put the floatant blocks into the seats.
