Calling her a novelist is a compliment she has not earned. She wrote an autobiographical yet largely fictional account of her backpacking trip on the Pacific Crest Trail. It was made into a movie. She skipped the most difficult section of the trail, the High Sierra portion, where all the altitudes are. True the whole trail is 2590 miles or so but she skipped the most difficult 400 miles, and that is only if the rest of her story is really true. There is some doubt.
As I recall the reviews, she boinked everyone she met along the trail and therefore changed her name to “Strayed” since she was married.
