Just a theory, but it seems to me someone deep in gambling debt will go to extremes to get back in the black, including murder for hire. Perhaps he was in the employ of ISIS?

I can see him maybe doing something illegal like smuggling, he did have a pilots license... But to gun down hundreds of innocent people with a machine gun.?? That's just plain evil... That's muslim territory..!
