Texas neighborhood tense over World War II tank parked outside multimillion-dollar home

A history buff in Texas shelled out some $600,000 for a fully functional World War II tank -- but now that it's parked outside his multimillion-dollar home, it's ruffling feathers in his neighborhood.

Attorney Tony Buzbee of River Oaks said he bought the tank overseas last year.

“Took a year to get here, but now it’s on River Oaks Boulevard,” Buzbee told KHOU Houston‏. “This particular tank landed at Normandy. It liberated Paris, and ultimately went all the way to Berlin. There’s a lot of history here.”

However, the homeowners association sent him a letter saying the tank “impedes traffic” and causes a “safety issue” and “serious concerns for neighbors,” according to the report.

Amazing. I never knew that. I always thought they had just some big ol’ gasoline engine made particularly to pull a tank, like maybe a giant tractor engine.

Then, it could easily liberate the neighborhood from the HOA Nazis!

Don’t know about that. the A2 used 2 GMC 6-71 diesel engines mounted side by side. This was done to accommodate
a request by the Russians that their lend lease Sherman’s have diesel engines. The U.S. Marine Corp also used the A2 version in the Pacific campaigns, because all of the Navy amphibs carried diesel fuel for their boats.

Put a pot or two of flowers on it and call it a lawn ornament.

It is in good shape. Must have been garage kept, mad only driven on sundays...

I wish I was his neighbor, we’d be driving all over the neighborhood, with me springing for fuel and the gunners seat.

There’s a multi-million dollar home in River Oaks? Who knew. I see a couple large old houses near the air station but that’s about it.

Really? No chickens or pigs in my non HOA neighborhood. My limited experience with such groups is akin to communist dictators.

I’ll never consider a HOA community in which to live.

I used to live in a subdivision. One day some lady called me and asked me to join the board of a new community council or something. I told her I wasn’t interested and she actually got mad at me.

Get the right oversized helmet and you might be able to do a pretty good Michael Dukakis impersonation :)

“So, if you were to walk around and ask locals what war this particular tank might have fought in...what answer would you get? I’ll take a guess at least 90-percent will guess the Iraq or Balkans War.”

Maybe Gettysburg?

But then you’d also get your other dream fulfilled. You’d need to buy a CAT excavator so someone can yank you out.

I got to take one of those for a ride once and dig some holes. That was pretty fun.

We had some kids on a job site. A buddy was the builder and told me to take the kids in the CAT and show them how it worked.

I pulled him aside and asked for a quick lesson. I’d run Bobcat’s and small stuff but never something huge.

that sounds like fun... i heard there is a theme park where one can drive construction vehicles... i bet the children were thrilled too, but not as much since they couldn’t drive.

hehehe

It’s a 75mm model. That won’t take out a Panther or Tiger. Horrible choice!
