IIRC, Lee's health was declining, and he was remotely broadcasting from Arizona, but wanted to cut down to 4 or even 3 days a week, due to the rigors of the job. My guess is that, being somewhat caustic to begin with, his demand to cut back his work schedule was the final straw. Don't think they even gave him a chance to say farewell on the show. He signed off the end of one show (think it was midweek), and the next day, Sussman had moved from his evening show to the 5-9 slot.
Melanie Morgan left KSFO about a year after Lee, but was on "America's Morning News" out of DC for a while. She has her own website, still fighting the good fight against the Lame Stream Media.
I was wondering what happened to Barbara Simpson. She was probably the last person I was listening to there. When did she get fired?
I looked it up, and Barbara Simpson is 80 now. On the radio, she never sounded her age. A few years ago her daughter was charged with elder abuse. That surprises me, because it’s hard to imagine her being triffled with. Perhaps she was my favorite KSFO host. They had some that I didn’t hear on for a long period who were good. Michael Savage was great when he was a local host. He dropped some of his best stuff when he went national.
I think Barbara Simpson got ‘let go’ about four years ago.
The big problem is she wanted to do focus on doing her talk show, period. That used to be enough.
Now, most station managers want The Talent to also communicate to people on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube. Many stations think this will pull in younger listeners. I keep hearing that most people under 40 are NOT listening to terrestrial radio, let alone AM terrestrial.
If they do listen to radio, it’s more apt to be online or a Podcast. I don’t do Podcasts or listen online, so I am shut out of most talk radio worth hearing. Maybe one day I’ll get into it. Not today.
This is one hell of a scandal with the NFL...
That’s why I think the owners (and players!) screwed up.
What’s next? Is the Verizon guy in the commercials gonna protest? Flo from GEICO?
One can only hope...
;-)
When did 910AM go off the air?
Oh, I guess about a year ago. Woke up one morning and they were simply gone! A business without a heart, radio is.
