Visited Marseille in the late 80’s even then we were warned about Muslim parts of town.

In Dumas’ wonderful revenge fantasy novel, “The Count of Monte Cristo”, Marseille came off as a violent and dangerous place... in the 19th century.

Port towns are often rough, but sometimes have more than just rough problems because they are sites of infection for foreign pathogens.
