Actually, I did visit North Korea briefly. If you take a DMZ tour that includes the Joint Security Area, you can enter a UN building that straddles the border. And in that building, you can cross over and visit North Korea. Okay, so I didn't see much but the inside of a building, and whatever is visible through the dirty windows there...

I highly recommend the DMZ tour, if you ever get a chance to visit Seoul. :)

I suppose you found that safe but was noting that travel in NK has ended horribly for many innocent souls.
