What a North Korea hydrogen bomb would do to the Pacific Ocean and space stations

"Nutmeg" nuclear test at Bikini Atoll on May 22, 1958. This surface blast was 25.1 kilotons, so 1.5 times stronger than the Hiroshima atomic bomb. North Korea's alleged hydrogen bomb test in early September was 11 times stronger than Nutmeg. Last week, North Koreas foreign minister floated the prospect of testing a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean in response to President Donald Trumps threat of total destruction of the Asian nation in a speech to the United Nations. Such a test, whether in the open air or underwater, would be the first of its kind in almost four decades.
But even before a hydrogen bomb test could trigger the fallout of international war, the blast would cause immediate damage to marine life and space technology like satellites and space stations.
What will that look like? The full repercussions depend largely on the science of the bomb, into which we have plenty of insight thanks to the 500 or so nukes detonated above ground from 1945 to 1980. Heres a closer look at what a hydrogen bomb could mean for sea creatures, fisheries, astronauts and even Google Earth.

What would a simple MOAB bunker buster do to Norks Weapons facility?
AFAIK, every retail credit/debit card transaction processed via satellite.
My mother’s second husband was in the Navy and they sent him along with others on a Naval ship to watch the dropping of the bomb 10 miles off Bikini Atoll. They stood on the deck of the ship as the bomb was dropped and told them there would be a bright light and to cover their eyes.
He told me he covered his eyes and the light was so bright he, through his closed lids, saw the bones in his hand, the skeleton of his own hand.
Afterwards, they had the men use the sea water, which was radiated, and this all unknown territory to these men, for washing their clothes.
They were of course over the years, suffering from radiation sickness.
My mother’s husband had to go to the V.A. all his life for ‘testing’ although they denied he had radiation sickness.
Yet they paid him a check for it.
LOL I’m going to guess physical sciences aren’t your strength and neither is reading.
Think, Castle Bravo.
That was a HUGE miscalculation.
I believe that it was set off about 90 feet below the surface.
It was so bad that they cancelled the next test, for years, that was supposed to be set off below the surface.
The world’s biggest fish fry??
Forgot to add an observation about North Korea’s ability to cause mass devastation to Seoul in South Korea. This is real and they can do it via their massive artillery on the border. This threat in the event of hostilities in the past could have been eliminated with the Neutron Bomb.
These are air burst weapons with little physical destructive power but insane amounts of neutrons that kill the combatants quickly. It must be noted it is a most gruesome death but war is gruesome. These weapons also have minimal fallout to effect South Korea. These weapons will also penetrate many inches of armor and many many feet of earth. Neutrons are neutral and just keep on going unless they hit the nucleus of an atom and at that time give off more killing x-rays and gamma.
A few hundred of these would wipe out North Korea’s ability to target South Korea with Artillery. Jimmy Carter, the stupid one, killed this program. We have the designs and know how to make them. We should make them.
If hostilities every broke out we would need to take out North Korea’s potential nuclear arsenal. This would require conventional nuclear weapons as you must be sure you get them all.
If one is ready to “Cry Havoc and let slip the Dogs of War” you may not need to go to war.
I hope that not one artillery shell or bomb from North Korea or South Korea lands on either nation. If this does happen it is my hope that most the bombs and artillery is ours landing on North Korea.
no its good for the political environment....best way I know for getting rid of invasive dictators by a government threatening just one application and even the most destructive political leader will cringe at the idea of it happening to them.... LOL just having fun
That would seem unlikely.
In the event of hostilities, the Norks have enough ranged artillery to destroy Seoul in the first 20 minutes of fire. Their very first salvo would kill several hundred thousand people in a few moments.
Neutron weapons have very short range and the effects on living creatures are not immediate. Even with direct hits on their positions, the Nork artillery crews might survive for 20 minutes.
The most effective counter-measure is a simultaneous pre-emptive strike on all known enemy positions. This would probably require "ordinary" nuclear weapons to permanently seal the bunkers.
Another effective counter-measure is a decapitation strike on the North Korean Government.
Another effective action is to convince the Chinese Government that it is their best interests to make the North Koreans back off. Everything the Norks are doing is at Chinese instigation.
I see little sign that our Government can do any of these things. Of course, we should not be displaying any indicators if we have such capabilities.
I guess I will wait for the news reports, like everybody else.
I read that China monitors Free Republic. It’s just after 10 o’clock at night. Do they know where their Un-Jong is?
We made a couple thousand of these in the 50's.
Cesium-137 dissolves in water and decays out very quickly in fish and other animals. No problemo.
There are many who can write despite feminist instructors keeping them out of English departments, but they are not paid to write.
Larger North Korean arms are notoriously inaccurate. Larger U.S. and allied conventional arms are quite accurate and ready.
Only China is known to have and have ‘tested’ neutron bombs; NOKO got nuclear bomb from China; China can give neutron bomb to NOKO.
The Chinese didn’t just steal the warhead design, but also got the neutron bomb designs - under Bill Clinton/Sandy Burger, aka the burglar; Clinton who was at the same time selling them every top secret mil item he could lay his hands on for campaign cash. An obvious ‘coincidence,’ right?
So don’t blame the Chinese, blame the Clintons for their greed, lawlessness, and stupid Third Way philosophy (if every one has the same weapons, no one will use them - a subset of ‘modern’ communist thinking propounded by their mentors).
It’s obvious that the author wishes anonymity and so chose a heteropalindrome for his name.
