During my stellar Army career (hey,at least my discharge reads "honorable") I wasn't into politics at all. That interest came later in life. However,I was aware of Communism...I was aware of the Soviet Union...and I did recall being very,*very* afraid during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

IOW,it never would have occurred to me in a million years to believe that Communism would win.And I was only a SP5.

I would think that such a thought would be even less likely to cross the mind of an *officer* in the United States Armed Forces.

I say court martial..."conduct unbecoming"...at the VERY least.

When I was on a carrier in the Seventies, someone had written on the inside of a stall in one of the fancier heads “B.O.C.” which was obviously a reference to the band Blue Oyster Cult.

At some point, someone had put letters vertically below each of the three characters to spell out “Brothers of Communism”.

They made every division officer on the ship have a meeting with those under him to discuss the seriousness of subversive activities while a member of the US military.

I thought the whole thing was absolutely stupid at the time...after all, it was obviously a joke, right? Someone writing on a bathroom stall out of boredom?

I have since come to learn there are some things you can’t do much joking about, and this is one of them, IMO.
