The National Institutes of Health is spending over $400,000 on a study tracking the eye movements of Latinos and their children at grocery stores in a bid to fight obesity.

The study at San Diego State University is using "eye-tracking technology" to determine how overweight people make their decisions on what to buy at the grocery. Researchers hope they can identify strategies for changing groceries to nudge people into choosing options they consider healthier.

“why WHY did I buy all this?! oh! that’s right! I was hungry!”

My wife and I had a laugh the other day at Costco. If we are ever destitute, we have to maintain our Costco Card, so we can go there to eat! It’s way, way better food there than at some homeless shelter!

I wish I could get a “want.” I always go with a list, mostly left over from the time before and the time before but never come home with anywhere close to half the list checked off because my sorry HEB has empty shelves and doesn’t stock even the bare basics. I had to go out of town to buy flour this week because mine hasn’t had it for a couple of months. The day of Harvey, I went shopping because I’d heard they finally got in canned tomatoes so I loaded the cart with them and the guy behind me laughed saying Harvey wouldn’t get this far north. No, nothing to do with Harvey but something is wrong when a Central Texas HEB can’t stock it’s shelves any better than Venezuela.

“Costco = suburban tapas bar”

Where we are, it’s Indians (of the Elephant-riding variety), and a few ME rug riders all of whom think their ethnicity gives them the right to try and jump the checkout line and try to run you down with their shopping baskets. NFW, as far as I am concerned.
