Fall is here and, as usual, it’s the time of the year when the broadcast television networks and the cable channels introduce their new schedules. The channels devoted to cable news are no different. Except that this year, Fox News is alone among the big three (FNC, CNN, and MSNBC) in shaking things up as the leaves are starting to fall.
Fox News started introducing its new schedule incrementally last Monday. Initially, Hannity moved back to the 9 P.M. time slot previously occupied since May 1 by The Five, which has now returned to 5 P.M., while a new hour of news with rotating hosts took over at 10. On October 30, the process will finish when Laura Ingraham starts her new permanent show at 10 P.M. and Shannon Bream anchors a live hour of news at 11.
The numbers on opening night don’t always predict the ratings, as viewing patterns have yet to settle in, but so far Fox couldn’t be more pleased with the reports from Monday. Sean Hannity had the most watched cable news show of the night and handily beat Rachel Maddow at MSNBC. In recent weeks, Maddow had risen to the top spot on cable news with her program that was the #1 show on most nights. On Monday, Fox News won the entire evening in prime time as well as during the rest of the day, both in total viewers and among the prime or preferred demographic metric (viewers 25 to 54).
Sean Hannity followed on Tuesday with another very strong program when he welcomed Bill O’Reilly as an in-studio guest for over half of his program. That should ensure another big ratings win.

Thursday should be good for ratings; Rush will be on Hannity.
So, did the Murdoch sons decide that their wives opinions on programming were actually tanking the whole network? Hope FoxNews does come back into a more Conservative mode......we don’t get OAN in the Phoenix area.
PS-That being said, someone needs to clue in Martha McCallum that every time she has Marie Barf on, people turn off the show.
I have to admit, it was nice to see O’Reilly on Fox News again. Looking forward to seeing Rush on Thursday, as well.
RE: Thursday should be good for ratings; Rush will be on Hannity.
O’Reilly, Rush, yeah. Good for ratings. But as the saying goes, one swallow does not make a summer.
I was under the mistaken impression that Laura Ingraham’s new show started this week. I tuned in to catch a few minutes and only saw Jarvis’ wife...the GOPe mini diva, Dana Perino. What a disappointment!
I thought the saying went, 'One swallow makes a satisfied customer.'
Boy I guess. You can add Stephen Hayes, Stirewalt, Karl Rove, Juan Williams, Chris Wall-ass, Queen Shemp, and Geraldo to that list as well.
Maddow got an uptick because Trump won. Water is returning to its natural level now.
If only to damage Maddow’s numbers this week, BOR and Rush will be useful.
I actually think Hannity in his new time slot will continue out-rating Maddow. Who knows? I rarely watch any of it any more.
“I have to admit, it was nice to see OReilly on Fox News again.”
Wasn’t it? It really brought home why the left wants him off the air so bad. Sounded like he and Hannity might be cooking up something too.
And Dana PeRINO is getting her very own show now — the 2 p.m. slot. Just shoot me.
Yes, I thought O’Reilly was good last night. Hit the libs hard.

They DID seem to have something up their sleeves didn’t they?
anyone know if Shep will go away?
The 2 PM slot on FNC has historically been the TV graveyard for a number of FNC hosts. Let us pray....
Thanks for that! Spectacular takedown of the fraud in a pantsuit!
