Elaborating further, in reality, this goes to show that Trump can’t serve up diarrhea, call it chocolate pudding, and expect his supporters to eat it. I suspect he never expected them to, however.
You truly do not understand Alabama politics if you think Moore will lose the final election. He will win and it will not be close.
It could be the greatest reverse psychology trick ever played. Trump might have just been trying to get the Democrats to stay home.

A lady caller to Rush just nailed it: "Trump backed Strange because he's is in the senate until December 5 and he needed his vote for repeal and replace and other votes." Also, probably arm twisted by McConnell and Kushner for that very reason. . I can just see McConnell saying, "Mr. President, if you don't back him, he'll take it as a slight and not vote for you." McConnell's out. . .
I was quoting Trump. He is the one saying Moore will lose.
Per Twitter, Trump is solidly behind Moore now. The race is over.

Or to put it another way: Mitch McConnell figured he could use Trump as a vessel to drag Luther Strange across the finish line. And the base said, “Get lost, creep. Trump’s our vessel.”
