“With regard to leadership, with the midshipmen over here, you know, it’s clearly something that you can’t wrap up in 30 seconds. But I guess what I would say to you is as you make the transition – and I think a number of you are making it this year – I think you probably have been told many times, and I’ll just remind you – it’s no longer about you.

“You know, to this point, someone cared about your grade point average. Someone cared about your level of physical fitness. Someone cared about your personal appearance. Someone cared about your accomplishments, your achievements.

“The day you become commissioned, that’s all in the sticker price of being a leader. Nobody cares. You get no credit anymore for any of those things.

“What you get credit for is the impact that you have on the young men and women that you’ll be so fortunate enough to lead. That’s actually what you get credit for.”

As opposed to what the snowflakes at most universities are being taught. It's all about them and once it is not all about them they are to get outraged and declare themselves a victim.

Yep the snowflake kids get a shock when out in the world.

They learn that the rest of the world isn’t liberal.

They learn that the rest of the world doesn’t give a damn about their political/social views.

They learn that, in the business world, there are goals and objectives, frequently revolving around sales of goods and services. They learn that you have to deal with people who don’t always share your liberal politics. They learn that their views are valueless to the workplace because the workplace is structured to meet the goals of the company, which normally have to do with selling the product ..

These idiot college kids learn a lot of life lessons when they get out in the world. And some are shocked by those lessons. The smart ones adapt.

with a few edits, this could pass for any college graduation.

“With regard to leadership graduation, with the seniors midshipmen over here, you know, it’s clearly something that you can’t wrap up in 30 seconds.

Told you how beautiful and what a special snowflake you are and inflated you ego to the same size as your self-esteem, well...

“The day you become commissioned graduated, that’s all in the sticker price of being an leader adult. From now on, NOBODY CARES. You get no credit anymore for any of those things. “What you get credit for is the impact that you have on the young men and women that you’ll be so fortunate enough to lead those around you and to what extent you become productive member of society. That’s actually what you get credit for.”

Having received my commission via OCS in 1961, I remember the rah, rah, rah talk about before long you will be an Ensign! Upon receiving that gold bar it didn’t take long to learn the an Ensign was lower than whale sh8t which is at the bottom of the ocean.
The way you earned respect was by showing respect and trust for the knowledge and abilities of your people and encouraging their development. I learned a lot by following these concepts. I believe I learned more about my job and myself by doing so. Served me well during my 27+ years of active and reserve service.
