International Firearm Ownership and Homicide Rates
Ammoland ^ | 21 September, 2017 | Dean Weingarten

The data for the graphic above was taken from the Guardian, a leftwing publication in England. Firearm ownership rates are from the Small Arms Survey in 2007, so it is a bit dated. The per capita ownership in the United States has gone up considerably since then.

It is now about 120 firearms per 100 people. U.S. citizens purchased 94 million firearms during the Obama presidency. They have likely purchased another 6 million in the first 8 months of 2017.

The firearms homicide rate fell from 4.19 in 2007 to 3.45 in 2014, but bumped up to 4.13 in 2015. (numbers from the CDC)

The chart shows that firearms ownership is not related to firearm homicides. That is somewhat misleading. The trick is to only look at firearm homicides. What matters is not firearm homicides, but total homicides. Firearms availability could either increase or decrease total homicides.

I ran the data from the Guardian through a standard statistical calculator to see if there was any correlation between firearm ownership and total homicides.  There was a small negative correlation. The 110 States that had both firearm ownership rates and homicide data were used.

The horizontal axis is the number of firearms per 100 people. The United State is the outlier on the far right, showing 88 firearms per 100 people.  That number is from 2007. The vertical axis is the homicide rate.

The United States is on the far left of the curve. About 88 firearms per 100 (2007 data, now about 120 firearms per 100).

Homicide rate about 5 per 100,000.

"The anti’s do not care about facts if they did we would not be having his discussion."

Right you are, the left want to confiscate any and all weapons a person could use to protect themselves from a dictatorial government, it's for their own good, don't cha know.

Back in the early 80s, I attended a speech by the late Arkady Shevchenko, then the highest-ranking Soviet official to defect to the West. He had been their top guy at the UN.

He spoke, interestingly, at KENNESAW COLLEGE — and we all know what Kennesaw is famous for! I’m proud to have played a small role in helping Mayor Darvin Purdy get that legislation through the Kennesaw City Council.

Shevchenko’s talk dealt with the clear intent of the leadership of the old Soviet Union (12/5/2015 UPDATE: ADD THE CURRENT LEFTIST CONTROLLED FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO THAT LIST!) to somehow take America. He mentioned their ICBMs and the nuclear blackmail threat they posed. (12/5/2015 UPDATE: MAKE THAT THE MUSLIMS!)

Then he broke from his prepared remarks and offered the audience this wisdom:

“The leaders of my country are as AFRAID OF YOUR 200 MILLION (12/5/2015 UPDATE: MAKE THAT 380 MILLION AND COUNTING!) PRIVATE FIREARMS as they are of your ICBMs. NEVER GIVE UP YOUR GUNS.”

Frankly — and, while he had to be careful as he was under FBI protection at the time, Shevchenko alluded to this in his remarks — I’m as concerned about some domestic tyrant (say, a Hillary, Nancy Pelosi, Barack HUSSEIN Obama or Chuck Schumer) as I am about some foreign enemy.

And it is THAT threat about which the Founding Fathers were concerned that prompted them to leave us the Second Amendment.

The BIG question is: WILL WE KEEP IT?

Read Andy Shevchenko’s autobiography. Still relevant after all these years, when the subject is tyranny.

Immediately following his defection in 1979, the KGB murdered his wife.

Unique to the Soviet Union? How about “Arkancide”?
