German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel warned against national selfishness in world politics on Thursday in his first speech at the United Nations General Assembly.
This worldview describes the world as an arena, a kind of battleground, in which everyone is fighting against everyone else and in which everyone has to assert their own interests, either alone or in alliances of convenience, Gabriel told world leaders.
The motto Our country first only leads to more national confrontations and less prosperity. In the end, there will only be losers, he said, in a thinly veiled reference to US President Donald Trumps oft-repeated slogan Make America Great Again.
Gabriels speech rejected Trumps previous remarks to the world body that encouraged world leaders to primarily consider their countrys own interests, reiterating his statement that he will be putting America first when it comes to foreign policy.
We have learned that it was not Germany first that made our country strong and prosperous. Rather, it was only European and international responsibility first that gave us Germans peace and prosperity, Gabriel said.

What a dingdong
I see no point in being lectured by Europeans about anything.
Inside every German beats the heart of a pure Nazi....
George Bush I, Bush II, and all the Rinos and Dems could have made the same speech. One world government and a new world order.
Pull all our troops from Germany, France.
I have news for Sigmar Gabriel, the world has ALWAYS been full of losers until the birth of the USA. America has lifted millions and millions out of poverty.
The world losers ride on our coattails. We are now telling the losers that the leaching is coming to an end.
The difference between America first and Germany first, is that we don’t go around invading every neighbor of ours to expand our territory while shooting or gassing millions of those we think are “sub-human.”
These people’s reactions are making clear that they want to do away with national sovereignty altogether. Freedom can only exist in a stong nation state. Globalism is universal slavery to the global elites.
Nope, Nazis were nationalists as well as socialists. Socialism and globalism is communism. That’s the real difference between to two, at least in theory. In reality though, once communists get control of a country they become national socialists in practice, if not in name.
Germany lecturing anyone on anything is, like, talk to the hand bro’
Lol, what idiots. I guess they want us to take a few nukes for the UN team, instead of do something to stop those nutcases in NK.
so true
Says the man from the one country responsible for both world wars. Yeah suck it Germany your opinion on the world stage means nothing almost like your influence.
We have learned that it was not Germany first that made our country strong and prosperous. Rather, it was only European and international responsibility first that gave us Germans peace and prosperity,

Rubbish...you Germans would have been fine if your nationalism didn’t morph into overt genocide against virtually every other culture/ethnic group you met.
Bad idea to give up the role of world police. The contenders are all expansionistic empires.
Those selfish euros! When are those selfish losers going to send me money??? By the way, what made the germans more “responsible” was having their a**es handed to them in WWII.
If they were indeed “responsible”, then they wouldn’t have used their influence in the European Central Bank (located in Frankfurt) to precipitate the 2008 crisis. (The US was badly affected thereby due to high exposure of our banks and markets to that.) Same goes for their fake “austerity”, which insisted that countries raise taxes along with cutting spending and “benefits”, and that resulted in high job losses.
