If NFL fans continue to turn away from football, the TV networks could lose as much as $200 million in earnings, according to a new report.
After ratings for Week Two crashed, adding to the angst already felt by a poor showing in Week 1, industry insiders and analysts are sounding the alarm.
A new report claims that CBS, ESPN, Fox and NBC could take a $200 million hit to their estimated $2.5 billion in NFL advertising earnings if fans continue to turn off the TV, the The Hollywood Reporter noted recently.
The worries over earnings are not allayed by the fact that this seasons Week Two is the lowest mark for CBS since 1998. And the first two games of the season are down double-digits at a multi-year low compared to last year.
Guggenheim Securities analyst Michael Morris told THR that he had hoped the 2017 season would be better than last year, but admitted that early results do not support this optimism.
Since the NFL season opened Sept. 7, shares of NBC parent Comcast are off 9 percent, ESPN parent Disney has seen its stock drop 3 percent and shares of CBS are down 5 percent, THR wrote. Only shares of 21st Century Fox have risen in that time frame, up 2 percent.
Not only do analysts see a fall in ad revenue, but this decline may also result in falling stock prices for the networks.

Who is the winner in tonight’s game Rams vs 49’s?
The people who sold their seasons tickets....
It is interesting to compare horse racing to football. It was the number one spectator sport in America in the first half of the twentieth century. But when television came out and wanted to broadcast horse races, the sport came out against it, because they wanted people at the races, and didn't want to cannibalize their audience. But the little known NFL jumped at the chance to get on TV, and soon football became America's number one spectator sport.
Football lasted as long as television lasted, but now we have people cutting their cable, watching media on all kinds of devices, and watching very focused streaming entertainment. Time for another shift in America's favorite sport.
Poor networks. On one front, are the people who want to be entertained, not politicized, and other front are the people who decry the ‘toxic masculinity’ football portrays.
I’ll try to show some sympathy after I stop laughing.
“Could football be on the decline in popularity?”
Wouldn’t be at all surprised. Seems to be a perfect storm against audience loyalty: men are turned off by the blatant politics and political correctness; women are being primed against “toxic masculinity” (and there’s a whole lot of masculinity in football), parents are being warned of brain injuries in the game; and kids are being steered to soccer instead of football. It would take a miracle to resurrect football today.
and the Players will have to sell Hot dogs at halftime
I'm watching football right now: Temple vs South Florida
The NFL is now dead to me. But we still have college football!
Yes!
I used to look forward to a good match-up even if my team wasn't in it.
Now I won't give even my Seahawks the time of day.
I *thought* that Michael Bennett was giving the 4th down clenched fist signal.
Apparently I am sadly mistaken.
He's giving the Black power salute.
Goodbye Seahawks.
Goodbye NFL.
Oh, and f%$k Roger Goodell
He *could* have put an end to this last season.
Hope he croaks.
It should cost a lot to play politics when you advertise sports.
Short of stuff like apologizing for treating their fans like crap and firing the players doing the antics, THE NFL IS FINISHED. Like it or not the Snowflakes who are into this crap (and watching men dressed in pink) are not into football, and the minorities who may also be into this crap simply don’t fork over nearly enough money to support the league.
The bottom line is that once the support of the white community is lost, the days of the NFL are numbered. If whites want to be told they’re shit or watch a bunch of men run around in pink, all they have to do is turn on the network news.
Switched it over to NFL network. Stadium in San Fran is half empty.

“...According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, a group of four current and former players sent the league a memo in August asking for the NFLs help campaigning for racial equality and criminal justice reform. The letter was signed by Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett, Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins, retired wide receiver Anquan Boldin and Eagles wideout Torrey Smith....”

The NFL deserves to lose ratings and ticket sales should go down the toilet until they learn to respect our flag and all who serve in the military and all those who pay the ultimate price!!!
However are college football ratings?
Carson was a real treasure.
Good stuff - miss those days; for a whole lot of reasons.
