Rand Paul: 'Graham/Cassidy Bill Is Barely ObamaCare Lite'
PJ Media ^ | 09/20/2017 | Michael van der Galien

With most Republicans backing the Graham/Cassidy healthcare bill, there is at least one Republican senator who's still vocal in his opposition. His name?

Senator Rand Paul.

Unlike his colleagues, who don't take their promises to American voters seriously, Senator Paul continues to call for the complete and total repeal of ObamaCare, the horrendous health care bill pushed through Congress by former President Obama and his Democratic allies.

I was thinking this all sounds familiar...amnesty?#GrahamCassidyِ: Amnesty for Obamacare.

— Senator Rand Paul (@RandPaul) September 19, 2017

"No one wants to repeal ObamaCare more than I do," the senator from Kentucky writes at FoxNews.com. "As a career physician, there are few in Congress who have as much firsthand experience on all sides of the health care debate as I do. I’ve voted for repeal. I’ve sponsored my own Repeal and Replace plans."

However, he goes on: "I’ve also led the fight to stop and block ObamaCare Lite' plans offered in both houses of Congress this year. These have been plans that have spent nearly as much money as ObamaCare, that left most of the taxes and regulations in place, and basically failed to honor our promise of repeal."

Rand is saving our a@^$# . I am hanging in there with essential oils after finally dissing the mortgage payment healthcare highway robbery plan. Let it blow up but BIG G’s gotta go. Put $$ in the bank fly to Costa Rica till this national nightmare ends. Any garbage plan they put up will be doctored once the commies come back again.

Please tell me how confiscating revenues from the states to Washington, and then Washington doling it back out to them based on preferences and political correctness, is right?

Why don't Congress simply do this: Use their power to regulate interstate commerce to allow health insurance to be sold across state lines, give the states a one-time block grant so that the people who lost their insurance coverage and those with emergency pre-existing conditions thanks to Obamacare can get taken care of, and turn Medicare/Medicaid over to the states completely?

I don’t trust anything in which Lindsey Graham is involved.

LOL. Did you know that most of FR applauded Trump working with Schumer and Pelosi on DACA? I mean, Pelosi and Schumer were calling Trump Hitler just moments before they met him and shook hands smiling with him.

I despise Graham but I think this is the best path forward and I trust President Trump. This is a beginning not an end. It returns power to the States, gets people back to choosing whether to get healthcare or not, how much, what’s covered. It takes the booty from the Blue States and distributes it evenly and there is a ratcheting down as the States wean themselves and work out how to best use the $. It gets rid of the medical device taxes.
Some of the things it does I’m less enthusiastic about like the very generous risk pools but they will be adjusted depending on how much use they actually get.

It appears to me you’re conceding that you could very well be wrong.

Damnit, it does not. I am sick and tired of FReepers accepting the Left's premise and not seeing this blunt truth. It's the equivalent of the Federal gas tax. States collect the revenues, the Feds dole out the money to fix the roads.

These block grants will have strings attached. Dems and their left-wing kook groups will sue that states must pay for transgendered middle-schoolers or abortion on demand. It is NOT federalism. It is more subsidies and status-quo and a quiet bail-out of the healthcare industry.

Get the federal government out of healthcare. They have the power to allow health insurers to sell across state lines. That alone will drastically reduce prices and promote competition.

I am telling you - we need to have full, unconditional, on the deck of the USS Missouri surrender Obamacare repeal, or we should force Congress and their staff to enroll in Obamacare and let it implode. You cannot compromise on this issue. Healthcare needs to return to genuine free-market forces with states keeping their safety-net programs or we will have Bernie-care.

Grahamnesty-Cassidey is a bailout for the insurance industries and more importantly, it is a bailout for states who refuse to rein in their spending. Get rid of Obamacare and turn it over to the friendly wolves of the free market.

I see that you are passionate about this and it is a terrible state of affairs I agree. What I don’t agree with is your pessimism. When you get that pessimistic forward progress is not possible.

The moderates control the senate and they will never pass a full repeal. The grants to the states do not have strings attached, the States are supposed to try different approaches since competition will uncover the most effective.People can move from one State to the other. If the Left tries to argue for conditions that’s the time to light up the phones and internet.

“It returns power to the States”

It does not.

It controls the states.

And each new administration can change it anyway they want, forcing the states to behave in different ways per administration whims.

Then how do you explain this:

The analysis by Avalere Health, a Washington-based health-policy consulting firm, forecasts that the amount of federal money devoted to Medicaid and private insurance subsidies would shrink by $215 billion between 2020, when the plan would begin, and 2026, the last year money is provided in the bill.

Cassidy-Graham would:

Eliminate the ACA’s marketplace subsidies and enhanced matching rate for the Medicaid expansion and replace them with an inadequate block grant. Block grant funding would be well below current law federal funding for coverage, would not adjust based on need, would disappear altogether after 2026, and could be spent on virtually any health care purpose, with no requirement to offer low- and moderate-income people coverage or financial assistance.
Convert Medicaid’s current federal-state financial partnership to a per capita cap, which would cap and cut federal Medicaid per-beneficiary funding for seniors, people with disabilities, and families with children.
Eliminate or weaken protections for people with pre-existing conditions by allowing states to waive the ACA’s prohibition against charging higher premiums based on health status and the requirement that insurers cover essential health benefits including mental health, substance abuse treatment, and maternity care.

Who gives a sh%#?!?

It is not the role of the Feds.

This is not a discussion worth having. Grants here, opioid treatment there, free tranny surgeries over there. This is NOT a discussion worthy of the federal government.

Not their role. Illegal. Unconstitutional.

Yes. I completely agree with you. The only difference is I want it to stop.

It will stop when the States have to start using their own money and they prioritize. They will decide what saftey net they want to provide and how to use their State tax money best. That happens in 2026 when no more moneys flow from the Feds to the States. That is the only way to get the Feds out, wean the States and give them the few years to set up a system like Maine or some of the other successful ones.

The people of the State will have the ultimate power because they can use their votes to weigh in.

I’m sorry. Is that what you do when you are presented with logical arguments you can’t refute?

I’m unimpressed.

I gave you the respect to post not only my assessment but the relevant articles backing up my premises. Agree or disagree but don’t bother trying to insult me. I have done my due diligence and my thoughts on this bill and the healthcare situation are coherent, consistent and based on a lifetime in the healthcare profession. Have a pleasant evening.
