Dreamers deported under Obama show possible future for 800,000
The Hill ^ | September 19, 2017 | BY BETH CALDWELL

....What happens when you deport people who spent their formative years in the United States? Scholars who have documented the consequences of deporting people who grew up in the United States compare the pratice to “violent dismemberment,” calling it “destructive and inhumane” and “tragic.”

Deportees who grew up in the United States experience their arrival to Mexico as such a profound loss that they often compare it to death. Thoughts of suicide are markedly higher among deportees with strong ties to the U.S. than among the rest of the deported population. Deported Dreamers also face social stigma in Mexico. They are perceived as different — as foreigners — due to their American upbringings. Being simultaneously rejected by the United States and Mexico triggers identity crises for many.

Mental health issues are more prevalent among deported Dreamers — depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress are the most common.

Against all odds, some deported Dreamers have been able to rebuild their lives in Mexico, enrolling in school (despite significant hurdles due to their acculturation in the United States) or launching small businesses that capitalize on their American upbringings — teaching English, selling American-style burgers or working in the tourist sector.

However, mental health issues are pervasive even among the most successful members of this population because they miss “home”—their families, their friends, their jobs, their property and the intangible places, feelings, sounds and smells that give our lives meaning.

Deportation almost always creates hardships in people’s lives, but it is exponentially worse for people who grew up as Americans. The United States should recognize the unique status of young people who have grown up as Americans. Deporting them runs counter to our country’s values.

One of our janitor’s son was deported. After he was deported he was able to find a job working for Mexican telecommunications company. The deported son got the job in Mexico because he could speak English. Win win.

DACA is open ended. It won’t be only 800,000 it will be many many more. Does anyone think illegals will stop bringing their kids here? Those will want amnesty and the next will want amnesty and the next etc etc.

Draw the line now. No Amnesty, no DACA, no more law breaking without punishment.

Sounds like congress better step up to the plate and come up with a constitutional solution to this, as the president has forced their hand.

Agree. They all go back.

This article ignores things like the current plight of blond/blue-eyed Swedes in Sweden. There's always a trade-off, but an American government should always put current Americans first.

The deported son got the job in Mexico because he could speak English

AND he had more then a 3rd grade education courtesy of U.S. taxpayers, not him or his useless parents.

Can we get a payment plan for them to pay back that?

Usually runs about $6K/yr in most school districts, if he went through all 12 years that's only $72K he owes us.

Parental abuse is a horrible thing.Of course nobody blames the parents...it’s always Nixon’s/Ford’s/Reagan’s/Bush’s/Bush’s/Trump’s fault.

Deportees who grew up in the United States experience their arrival to Mexico as such a profound loss that they often compare it to death.

Why? I have friends who vacation in Mexico every year. It's not uncommon for people who got rich working for the state of California to return the favor by moving to Mexico when they retire to avoid California's high cost of living.

Our schools here close for the entire week of Thanksgiving and close for an extra week in December so all the illegals can return home for those holidays.

What is so hell-hole-ish about Mexico? Arent' we told that's where all the jobs are? Aren't they as productive and entrepreneurial in Mexico as they are here? Who picks their lettuce in Mexico? Who cleans their hotel rooms?

According to demonicRATS, those are the attributes that make this country work and if it wasn't for all these illegals, we'd all be sleeping in messy hotel rooms, dying from lack of lettuce consumption and there'd be no businesses run or homes built in The U.S.

What gives? Are we being lied to?

Yeah, the local news featured one of the “dreamers” complaining about the DACA decision. She said it was unfair because she has lived here most of her life. She needed a translator because she doesn’t speak English. It was a real tear jerker.

Pardon me if I don’t care. The repercussions of illegal conduct is not my concern nor my responsibility.

Someone who is brought to this country when they are 6 and has made no effort to become citizens by the time they are 30 are on their own. They made a choice.

"Against all odds, some deported Dreamers have been able to ... " (cue violins) Image and video hosting by TinyPic As usual we have to decipher or translate another heart wrenching MSM article into plain English. Starting with the title: the cutely titled `Dream' act didn't pass. Obama's illegal and unconstitutional `executive action' let them stay. Temporarily. These are DACAns, but that makes them sound like aliens. Which is what they are, so Crimea river. The Jeopardy theme song is winding down, here's your hats and Mexican flags kids. Adios y huevos rancheros.

> Mental health issues are more prevalent among deported Dreamers

Did the mental issues increase after they were deported? Or were they caused by the child abuse their parents inflicted on them by making them illegals at an early age and raising them in an environment where there was no certainty about their short-term or long-term future.

It’s very possible (likely) that even dreamers who receive amnesty and stay in the US will have increased mental health issues.

She said it was unfair because she has lived here most of her life.

So in all that time it never occurred to her to learn English and apply for citizenship?

During WWII my mother came to the US from Toronto as a registered nurse. She worked in hospitals in New York (Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse) throughout the war including caring for wounded service members.

When the war ended, she went to the back of the bus behind English, German, Italian and Japanese war brides and eastern european refugees to get her citizenship. She did not fall under the immigration quota numbers for Canada. She was not naturalized until after 1951.

That caused me all kinds of grief after I enlisted because every time I processed or updated my security clearance paperwork, I had to resubmit her naturalization information because I was born to a resident alien even though my father was a US citizen by birth and I was born in Washington DC.
