Following the announcement of a "not guilty" verdict in the case of Jason Stockley, a white former St. Louis police officer who killed a young black man, protesters took to the streets.
Prosecutors accused Stockley of murdering Anthony Lamar Smith after the police interrupted a drug deal. Smith took off in his car and eventually crashed. Stockley claims he saw Smith with a gun and fired.
But prosecutors said that Smith didn't have a gun and Stockley planted a weapon.
Dashcam video from Stockleys police car captured him saying he was going to kill this (expletive), dont you know it. Less than a minute later, he shot Smith five times.
Stockleys lawyer dismissed the comment as human emotions uttered during a dangerous pursuit.
In his decision, Wilson wrote that the statement can be ambiguous depending on the context.
This court, in conscience, cannot say that the State has proven every element of murder beyond a reasonable doubt or that the State has proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant did not act in self-defense, the judge wrote.
In an interview with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch after the verdict, Stockley, 36, said he understands how video of the shooting looks bad, but that he did nothing wrong.
I can feel for and I understand what the family is going through, and I know everyone wants someone to blame, but Im just not the guy, said Stockley, who left St. Louis police force in 2013 and moved to Houston.
St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner acknowledged the difficulty of winning police shooting cases but said prosecutors believe they proved that Stockley intended to kill Smith.
Fridays protests began with largely unsuccessful efforts at civil disobedience.

Stockley claimed self-defense and the judge agreed which renders any lesser included charges like second degree murder or manslaughter unchargeable.
I am not the owner of an IPhone; I use Consumer Cellular strictly for emergencies - like Hurricane Irma - but I’m curious as to the cost of them. That gal in the picture is sure clinging to hers. I heard a commercial on TV awhile ago about a new one coming out for $999.00. How expensive are these phones and how on earth do all the riff-raff in the country have them? Are they Obama phones or what? Not that I want one - just curious!!!
I bought an I Phone5 on ebay for $150 when it was two Iphone 6 models behind
Maybe we should .
He said: We’re killing this MF’er, don’t you know it.”
Now here is the ambiguity. Was he saying as statement of intent or was he saying it as a resigned probable outcome?
FWIW, a few times, I have said/thought the same when I have been in high speed pursuits, and it was along the lines of an incredulous “I’m going to have to kill this MF’er”. Meaning I may have to ram him, or shoot him when he inevitably wrecks and bails, (provided of course the original offense was a violent felony or he committed another during the pursuit), just to stop him.
Pursuits are some of the most dangerous duties a police officer will engage in. The fleeing criminal is almost always so desperate to get away they will put everyone’s life at risk to do so, without a thought or care.
Joe Citizen would not be in the same situation and the standard by which the officer is judged is what would another reasonable officer in a similar situation with similar training and experience would do.
And it no doubt works as good as any of the newer models for a lot more $$, right? I have lived this long without an attachment to my body and I prefer to keep it that way - LOL...From what I see when I’m out, it appears that these are appendages they can’t do without. Can hardly get past them in grocery store aisles as they are too busy on their phones to notice they are not the only ones there.
They promised to march to the Capitol of Missouri.
Nobody knew where it was or how long a walk it would be.
After someone gave them a map, showed them the little towns they would be marching through, they ditched the idea.
Are you serious ?
they know better than to touch it like that
The judge gave him a pass on all lesser charges. Read the last two paragraphs. The judge says there wasn’t a need to consider lesser charges since the state did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant was not acting in self defense. The prosector didn’t over reach because he had nothing to grasp at.
What the judge said was that the prosecution did not disprove self defense beyond a reasonable doubt. He also said that the key issue was whether this was "an intentional killing following deliberation by Stockley..." which is a requirement for a first degree murder conviction. The prosecution failed to show that. The judge also said that he did not consider conviction on lesser charges because the prosecution requested a ruling on first degree murder only.
The dark feature people are just looking for some excuse to loot and burn up da hood.
An I PHONE is something of a misnomer. The device is not so much a phone as a very sophisticated compact computer with a phone ap.
The phone application is for me is not actually used very much. In business, telephones have fallen in to disuse with e amil being preferred. The I phone allows constant real time contact by e mail or voice mail with both clients and the companies they ask me to visit.
The camera and the calculator and flashlight capabilities allow me to leave all those at home. By accessing the cloud on One Drive, I have lots of Specifications and related drawings at hand. Notes ap allows me to buy what I need when I go to Walmart. The Waze ap knows where everything is and directs me right to it even though hundreds of miles away from home. Kayak allows me to reserve a motel or rental car while on the road. and on and on
I’m 75 and continue to learn more from those younger all the time
“”Im 75 and continue to learn more from those younger all the time””
Well, good for you. I think it’s great when people WANT to keep up but I’m not one of them. I have you beat by a few years and I’m right where I am going to stay - computer and emails and that’s enough for me. I’m glad I learned to use a computer while still working and it fills a lot of my time but still have relatives and friends who refuse to learn/use one. I find myself printing a lot of material to mail to them - LOL!
I told my husband during our power outage from Hurricane Irma I didn’t know where we belong. We’re not in the tech age and we went nuts trying to fish a wick out of an oil lantern when it went down into the oil and frustrated the heck out of us...could get ahold of it but couldn’t get it over a lip in the lantern. We had to laugh even tho’ we didn’t feel like it.
We finally got it out and threaded back through the whatever and I believe the power came on shortly after; after 3 days WITHOUT!! Sure glad I wasn’t born and expected to cross the nation in a wagon train!
serious,
That happened during the Ferguson event.
No body knew where the Capital was.
and they would likely be appealed at the racist name of it
