WASHINGTON — New guidance released Friday by the Pentagon makes it clear that any transgender troops currently in the military can re-enlist in the next several months, even as the department debates how broadly to enforce a ban on their service ordered by President Donald Trump.
In a memo to top military leaders, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said a high-level panel will determine how to implement Trump's ban on transgender individuals in the military. Trump directed the military to indefinitely extend the ban on transgender individuals enlisting in the service, but he left it up to Mattis to decide if those currently serving should be allowed to stay.
Members of Congress have already sent a letter to Trump calling on him to reconsider the ban.
Sen. John McCain, the Republican chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said Friday he backed legislation that would bar the Trump administration from forcing transgender troops out of the armed forces.
McCain of Arizona said in a statement that any service member, including those who are transgender, who meets the standards for military readiness and medical fitness should be permitted to serve.
"When less than 1 percent of Americans are volunteering to join the military, we should welcome all those who are willing and able to serve our country," McCain said.
The bill is an attempt to establish protections for transgender troops in law, cutting off Trump's efforts to kick service members out based on their gender identity. Trump tweeted in July that he would ban transgender troops from serving anywhere in the U.S. military. The directive caught the Pentagon flat-footed as defense officials struggled to explain what they called Trump's guidance.

The President made a lot of promises...*big* promises...during the campaign.He's gotten *massive* resistance from just about every direction since taking office.
So my question is...did he mean those promises and,if so,does he have the mettle to keep them despite the onslaught?
The devil is always in the details. Do the standards for readiness and fitness include hormone maintenance, psychological counseling, frequent duty outages due to the regimen, and finally, government-paid surgery?
If they do, NO WAY!
If they don't (i.e., the change has already been completed and doesn't come with outrageous maintenance costs--maybe.) But, that's unlikely also, because without constant maintenance there is regression to the original genetic pattern.
No more free surgery, no more free drugs.

This isn’t about drugs and surgery. It is about common sense and decency. The transgenders are an abomination and mentally ill morale killers.
One does not preclude the other, and this was never an either/or.
It’s simple really. The left utterly owns corporate America now. Mattis knows if he does not play for Team Homo he will never get cushy corporate board “jobs” once he leaves “public service.”
Didn’t he get the memo? Irritating that Trump’s directions are getting ignored. That is no leadership. Maybe politics, say one thing for the public, let staff “quietly” do another?
Either this is fake news or deliberate insubordination. Fire him if true. ANYBODY that goes against the President’s agenda should be fired. We the people have spoken and Trump’s agenda is what we want. The the victor goes the spoils.

If a male Soldier wants to live as a woman outside of duty hours, can deploy, pass all training requitements, and maintains good order and discipline while in uniform, I don’t care. You can self identify as a baby giraffe so long as you meet standards, do your job and look out for the Soldier to your left and right.
If he serves honorably and after receiving his Dd214, wants to undergo hormone treatment and plastic surgery with his own funds to gain some outward appearances of a female, I don’t care and it does nothing to dishonor his service.
Those things aren’t what the transgender lobby is asking for though. They want to be treated special. They want to pick the rules they have to follow, impose rules on others, and then change them depending on their mood. All to accommodate a very small number of people who readily offer that they possess a higher rate of mental health problems incompatible with military service.
Special treatment ain’t what makes the military work. Same treatment is what makes the military work. Tens of thousands of Americans wait a few years until discharge to grow beards, get prominent tattoos, try weed, get fat, travel to Cuba, or color their hair blue. A few hundred can put off hormones and plastic surgery.
