That sound sweet!

Mine was actually “flying” tacked to the wall under my front porch. It still looks new.

The clean sweep is not necessarily specific to a particular class vessel, however, subs & mine sweepers seem to have used it more commonly. I believe recently some of the ships sending missiles into Syria displayed the broom after their successful launches.

Fishing vessels used to display a broom alongside the dock if the boat were for sale.

My experience with brooms on ships was getting up very early in the morning, after the engine gang blew stacks, and sweeping soot off the decks in the pitch dark. You could not see your broom. When the sun rose the captain did not want to see any soot on his decks.

They should sink all the North Korean subs.

You were lucky. When the fleet burned NSFO, we had to blow tubes once each watch. When the ships converted to DFM, you had to blow tubes once each day, normally on the mid-watch.

Love it.

Need more of that old-time American rebelliousness.

Not sure of the "legality" per se, but during the "Tanker War" in the late eighties, our patrol boat (PB-775) and our sister boat (PB-773) both flew the Roger every time we were underway.

It sat directly under the US flag that was hoist as we cast off from Barge Wimbrown.

Here’s a fun video of Emerson Lake and Palmer playing “Pirates” live with various pirate videos overlain by the youtuber. A buddy of mine was into sailing, and upon hearing the song for the first that the song is very accurate.

I read a long time ago that the first pirate flags were just plain red. Then came plain black, and then the various designs.

There’s a very intriguing graphic that crops up in several pirate flags, the hourglass. The Christopher Moody I think has a lot of potential for our era, I could see it as elaborate pinstriping on a Harley gas tank, maybe even airbrushed. Tempus fugit.

If I had any sense, I’d do the same.

However, I tend to be a contentious, up in your face instigator, so....

[Awww....my rebel flag offends you? Fine, here’s a BIGGER one]

;D
