You’ve never stayed at a Motel 6 level hotel?
i have. But at this point in my life, I refuse to stay in cheap hotels. The one luxury I afford myself.
In its early days, Motel 6 was a nice clean place to stay. The last one I stayed at was in 2001 in San Diego, which was filled to the brim with Crips gang members who partied in the back parking lot -- complete with lookouts in a low rider at the corner.
All eyes were on us as we drove over to our room. We went inside, turned the lights out and waited for the group to leave (it was around midnight,) at which point we left the room key cards on the table and split.
Since that time our rule is: Three stars or we stay home.
