Red Cross admits to staying in high-priced Houston hotel

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- At least one city leader is questioning the Red Cross's choice of hotels while coming to Houston to help with Harvey relief.

City Councilman Dave Martin dubbed the charity the "Red Loss." He made the point last week at city hall, claiming he hadn't seen the charity in his district.

Five days later, they still haven't shown up in Kingwood, Martin claims.

Flood victims like Ronald Leggett, who live in Kingwood echo Martin's complaints.

"I haven't seen them," Leggett said. "I've been here almost every day."

But that's not what really has Martin upset.

Some of the luckiest Red Cross volunteers are staying the night at the St. Regis Hotel, one of the city's finest 5-star places to spend the night.

ABC13 Investigates found Red Cross vans parked outside the hotel along the street in an area marked for limousines over the weekend.

The Red Cross admits it had 20 volunteers staying there for days on end, due to "limited availability" they say, in the Houston area.

I was asked one time why I wouldn’t give to United Way.
My response at the time was “Aramony, Aramony, paying your bill”, referring to the fraudulent CEO William Aramony.

They are big on jihadi refugees-do not donate to them.

More info? Thanks.

We donate to Samaritan’s Purse, as well.

Love there charity works, but not their barrage of emails and mailers :-(

I think I need to check/change my notifications selections.

Somehow our signals got crossed up. I was banging the drum for Samaritan’s Purse, not the Red Cross who I would never donate to.

Do you have any idea how much business is conducted by cell phone in coffee shops and over truck hoods?

To make a comment like that shows a lot about you.

And a lot about you too. Why are you questioning his comment? I got it and thought it was rather clever.

Many of us have researched the best charitable organizations for disaster relief and which spend the greatest percentage of their donations directly helping people. Of the large organizations, probably the very best is the Salvation Army, and one of the worst is the Red Cross.

Red Cross Fraudulent Statements:

Salvation Army was founded in 1865 and operates in 127 countries and disaster relief is one of its major areas of expertise:

You can donate specifically for Harvey relief here:

Noticed decades ago that the Red Cross gouges during blood sales. Did ll our blood donations on military bases.

UNITED RIPOFF

The United Way is always pimped by every Corporation you work for. Your bosses pick that one to be conformist.

Your Corporation is run by SICKOs when you add up the charity money they have squandered over the years.

Your boss is stupid and incompetent. Human Resources hires the real losers.

Pretty much every company pimps that loser charity, United Ripoff. And if you disagree, the boss comes after you. United Ripoff is a political hit group, not a charity.

I agree. Just passed up a Samaritan’s Purse along I-10 on my way to drop my son off a school. That is a far better operation
