WASHINGTON In a political year that has blown up conventional wisdom, the special election to fill the Alabama Senate seat vacated by Sen. Jeff Sessions confirmation to Attorney General, may further upend the status quo.
In an August 15th GOP primary, controversial former Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, Roy Moore, bested interim Senator Luther Strange by roughly 6 percent, forcing a September 26 run-off. On primary night, Moore touted his maverick reputation.
"I'm running to make a difference in Washington, and those in Washington are scared," he said.

I do. Trump is supporting the less conservative candidate. Trump doesn't get a pass from me. Neither does McConnell.
As I have said though I think Moore will still win this thing despite Trump's endorsement. However Luther is bragging about the Trump endorsement in his ads. I think the guy in Luther's ad says "Trump supports Big Luther. That is good enough for me" ... or something like that. It is not the end of the world if either of these men get elected in comparison to some of the other Senators. Luther can't be THAT bad if Donald Trump is supporting him, right? :-) Hopefully Moore wins.
Why worry? Luther ain’t gonna win. I’ll be glad to bet on it.
Yep. I don’t think Alabamians are buying the crap they are being fed through these political endorsement games and ads. Moore is a well known entity around here — more so that Luther Strange.
Moore will be a Strange(r) to McConnell!! :-)
“Judge Moore is the real deal.”
I agree.
However, nobody should ever put too much stock in any single man. Trump was the real deal once too. He’s the swamp in this race.
I only know of one “endorsement” of Strange by Trump - seems like it was part of a deal to make McConnell happy - wasn’t all that long after that trump “worked with the Dems” as kind of a back-handed swat at Ryan and McConnell....
I find it interesting that Trump made one statement a few months ago and hasn’t personally said anything else since. I’d wager that if Moore comes out on top, Trump will come out very strong for him though. Will have to wait and see.
