The Green Party has been in every Parliament since 1999, but unless the party can turn Newshub's latest poll result around, this year its streak could end.

The real news in this poll is the big bounce back for National. National is the center-right party that has governed the country since 2008. In my opinion, National has done well. Nevertheless, this year the voters seems smitten with Jacinda Ardern, rather on the young side, and a cross between Olive Oyl and Alanis Morissette.
During the past month to six weeks, as Jacinda-mania took hold, her party - Labor - moved up to and perhaps even overtook National. But, this poll suggests, Kiwis are sobering up after a fling with this femme fatale. When you get past all her teeth, you find she really is a stark raving progressive socialist. This is one girl you date, but don't bring home to mother.
As for the Green Party, this is merely a poll, so I wouldn't get too excited by it dipping under the 5 percent mark (the threshold in NZ). But, if Jacinda manages to disenfranchise the Greenies, good for her.
