It’s a real good question... with their weight, I expect manatees can’t survive long without being able to float - would tend to cut off circulation and breathing.

Yet, there are probably dozens or more with this issue and not nearly enough volunteers. Could be a lot of lost animals today if they can’t hold on until the storm arrives.... which itself is ironic.

Manatees are mammals, and should be able to be fine out of water until the tide comes back in. It shouldn’t be that long until it does, and although they are big, they aren’t so big that they would be crushed under their own weight like whales.
