I got that call too; got a very frail MIL I'm looking after. I told my co-workers, most who have never experienced a major storm, the aftermath is be dreaded as much as the storm.
The trolls should be temporarily banned.
Inner edge of eyewall precip band now crossing Key West south shore.
Wow! So, you KNOW what you don’t know:) My background is nursing. When I took Anatomy & Physiology (thousand years ago) I went from a bored agnostic to a steadfast believer in God. These systems, weather, astronomy, physiology, etc.are profoundly perfect, and while somewhat observable, still mysterious.
Sorry to go OT, just so interesting. Eeegads, cubed;)
Per their Facebook site, it sounds like the Coast Guard station in KW was sheltering in place.
I suspect that mos of their building are reinforced from the wind - but that won’t protect them from the storm surge.
Recent vid from KW, since dawn, has about 2 feet of still water in “downtown” area. But whatever peak surge they get is likely any minute.
trof isn’t a word. It’s spelled trough
Because when you think you're going to get nailed with a Cat 3, you move.
If it doesn't happen, you get on your knees and THANK GOD instead of being all high and mighty and criticizing other based on hindsight.
Warning people about something that could kill them is NOT fear mongering.
The the decision to leave or stay is the individual person's. You have no basis for criticizing how others choose to live and the decisions they make about their own lives.
They do NOT answer to you.
My opinion of people like you is best not stated...
Bump This!!!!
You go, NN.
These hurricane threads are “known” about.
Watching TWC, downtown Miami looks like it’s a really really windy place.
Obviously, it’s the off-shore winds coming on-shore and the effect of the wind being concentrated as it passes between the tall buildings.
TWC guy says that he can see lights on in some of the high-rises around him. Non-evacuees, I guess.
90+mph wind reported in Key West...
BTTT
WOW! Hitting a brick wall. Could that force a right turn across the state? Looks ominous.
Thank you for that. Like many I have family in Florida. They have an unrealistic expectation of the models. We’ve known that the hurricane was going to hit Florida in for a week. The area of possible landfall was about 100 miles wide. To me that’s very precise and enough to scare me, to my family not so much. They now have to ride it out in Naples.
Prayers up for everyone.
You do the best you can with the information you have.
You cannot criticize people’s decisions based on hindsight.
The problem isn’t that people rightfully evacuated when the threat was bearing down on them.
The problem is armchair experts who expect pinpoint accuracy when it is impossible, and hold others accountable (meteorologists) for factors they cannot control (weather).
All those people who are criticizing who said what should go out there and do the job themselves if they think they know all that much.
So a home owner has to pay $25,000 to repair their home after insurance settles - money that could have been spent on a used car, kids college fund, eating out and other things.
All that does is transfer money that could have gone one way off to another direction while inflicting pain and suffering on the home owner.

Was surprised at TWC guy in Naples. It really didn’t look that bad. I expected it to be worse. I know it’ll get worse there. I just thought by now, it’d be worse.
