The entire Florida Peninsula and points north are poised to experience Hurricane Irma after the storm hugged Cuba's northern coastline. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Hurricane Irma's prolonged interaction with Cuba diminished its strength to Category 3.
Irma is forecast to increase in strength as it crosses the FL Straits. The Florida Keys experienced strong outer bands while Irma grazed the N Cuba coastline.

Hurricane Irma Live Thread I
Hurricane Irma Live Thread II
40 dBz eyewall outer boundary now two miles offshore of Summerland Key.
New tornado warning from DelRay to W. Palm Beach. Radar indicated. moving NW at 55, repeat 55 mph.
Thanks - right now that cam just shows the interior stage of the bar with voices in the background. All of the Live Cams on Key West that I looked at are down.
at below 10 mph forward speed no telling how strong it could be,what about sheer?
Thank you and the others who’ve passed similar messages.
Watching Fox News (I know, I know) while reading this thread all night. They had Reed Timmer reporting live on the ground in Key West a few minutes ago. He said he’d report more again later if he’s able. The guy’s certainly got more cojones than I can fathom.
I don’t envy what you guys do its too tough...
Power went out about 2 AM, perhaps 3 AM there, and has not been back up.
You’re right, the reef should help. Hope it helps a LOT.
Peak eyewall velocities around 12 NM radius. Or 9.2 miles south of south shore, at 0630 EDT.
Eight feet with a wave could be dicey for a lot of places. No telling on Sugarloaf, that island extends waaaay out into the Atlantic.I guess Key West may be getting a bit of a break here not being on the nasty side....
Extreme wind warning.
We really needed American shoals and Sombrero up for this, really sad. I’m hoping some of this gets privatized.
New TVS, inner edge of eyewall, dead center.
115 mph gust at KW per TWC.
Last number on wave heigth was 31 feet, an hour back.
Keys builders are getting better all the time. I guess some impact windows will get a test, but elevation and CBS is really the way to go.
40 dBz boundary now ashore between Summerland and Big Pine Key.
Now at Highway 1, this is it.
West edge of eyewall may just graze KBYX radar at the air station. Keeping this radar feed would be a valuable asset.
OMG still that’s down from the 54 feet in the Caribbean a few days ago,so I’m guessing the reef could get his with a 30 foot wave. But, how that translates into how big it is by the time it hits the shoreline I don’t have a clue.
Thanks for updates.
