Walls Close in on Ryan: Conservative Congressmen Warn Speaker About Failures in Governance

Three Freedom Caucus leaders brought warning to House Speaker Paul Ryan on Wednesday as former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon has been speaking with GOP lawmakers, according to a new report from the Washington Post.

Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows, Rep. Jim Jordan and Rep. Scott Perry met with Ryan on Wednesday according to two sources that spoke with the Post. The report noted Meadows’ longtime close relationship with Bannon. The lawmakers voiced the importance of seeing leadership set conservative policies in place and warned that their continued support may depend on it.

The Post added that Bannon has been “having conversations with hard-line GOP lawmakers about how they should exert greater influence in the fall’s political fights and pressure congressional Republican leaders.”

According to the report, rumors have arisen that Meadows and Bannon have begun discussing possible Ryan replacements.

One anonymous lawmaker told the Post that “countless Americans” have expressed to this lawmaker that they are fed up with a lack of accomplishments in Congress and with the leadership of Senate Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan. The lawmaker warned that these Americans will demand new leadership if they don’t see swift change.

Pressure Ryan? Primary the RINO. Better yet, tar and feather him.

Find someone who can get 218 votes and you can get rid of Ryan. Until then it’s a moot point.

Ryan is not what he presents himself to be, that deception extends to his personal affairs.

Might you care to elaborate on the ‘personal affairs’ comment...although nothing would surprise me regarding that A-hole.

Do you think Ryan himself could get 218 votes at this point? I don’t.

Wouldn’t work the people in his district love him. I think he won the renom with 70% the last time.

If he could lose his speakership then the “love” might change but then he’d be irrelevant!

Jeeze...too funny. He’s already more of a snake in my book than Frank Underwood is even made out to be (House of Cards).

Being a Switch Hitter just seals it. How the hell can we have 254 Republicans in the House and not elect a conservative speaker, when (in 1999) we had 223 (i.e., very bare majority) and still managed to elect a conservative?

Wouldn’t surprise me if he was a perv...reminds me a LOT of Anthony Weiner.

It'd be tight. He can only afford to lose 29 Republicans.

Who else could get 218? While I doubt Ryan could get 218 on the first ballot, remember he was the one Republican they could find with "gravitas", who had not made sufficient enemies to prevent their election as speaker. Democrats have a plurality because Republicans are split between the conservatives and the RNC toadies. RNC toadies are terrified of allowing actual conservatives near the actual levers of power, as they might implement small government policy.

Just wait til the new and stunningly unaffordable ObamaCare price for coverage with even higher deductibles come out and Trump starts rescinding Obama’s sweetheart waiver deals to cronies and Congress

At the same time some major scandals from the pre Trump era are going to heat up.

It’s going to be an interesting fall

Trump made McConnell and Ryan his bitches. First with the forced votes on repeal and replace, then handing DACA off to them to fix, and now cutting deals with Democrats.

Trump’s made a mistake. He should not be dealing with Schumer and Pelosi, instead rank and file Democrats. Their leadership is just as bad as ours.
