the current path may be the best possible path out of all the bad options..every major city gets black eyes..but none get knocked out

The good news for SE FL is that NHC track shifted slightly west. The bad news is that the new eye is 46 miles wide so it DOESNT MATTER.

We need to keep in mind that at 48 hours out, NHC’s average track error is 50 miles either way (just using that as an example), and, that the worst wind damage is usually not right on the line of the actual track of the storm center that occurs. Storm surge maximums and extreme flooding can be even further off the track.
Plus, there’s the very large eye this storm has, as others have commented. The swath of destruction may be ungodly wide, unlike Andrew, for example.
