The States Where a Driver's License Won't Work for Air Travel Next Year
MSN Travel & Leisure ^ | September 6, 2017

As the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) slowly implements the REAL ID Act of 2005, ID standards will change at airports around the country. This month, the government will expand its outreach program to spread information to travelers about the change.

Effective Jan. 22, 2018, the DHS will no longer accept state-issued IDs from half the country. Travelers from “noncompliant” states will need to show an alternative form of ID, such as a passport, when boarding a plane.

Can’t wait until the law is you can’t buy sell or otherwise interact with someone without “papers” but as long as you get them Mejicans let’s lose all our freedom.

Since a lot of the folks we are talking about are cash-only, it certainly won't affect them. And there will always be somebody within the system willing to sell to them.

I used to think we would be cash-less in my lifetime, because of this - when the REAL ID stuff was passed, there were murmurs in Congress of going cash-less, so they could track all transactions.

The next step down the slippery slope will be ID to pass from state to state. Which has already been suggested by the jackboots at “Homeland Security”. Why don’t they just call it The Motherland and be done with it

The next step will be a Universal ID in the form of a tatoo or mark on your right hand or forehead.

It will happen someday. I guarantee it.

Nope, never gonna happen.

Instead it will be an RFID chip embedded in your arm. Gotta keep up to date.

...
...for now.

Yet another govt over-reach to ‘correct’ (a) problem(s) of their own making (border enforcement, identify theft, immigration enforcement, visa overstays, ‘refugees’...)

Citizens (again) pay the price.

No sympathy. Too bad for residents of these states. They’ve had how many years, plus federal funds made available, to get these done? The lagging states have screwed their citizens, not the federal government.

I’m sorry. Did I miss the Amendment that gives Fedzilla the authorization??

The SAME Fedzilla that ‘can’t’ track visas, illegals, sends BIG $$$ over-payments through IRS\welfare\mediXYZ (fraud), loses $B+\yr and chalks it up as an accounting ‘error’, can’t run a ‘h’care’ website under $1B

But, WE, as Citizens w/ alienable Rights (IE: travel) are to bear the brunt of our freedoms? F* that!

I can recall participating in threads on Free Republic from around 10 years ago where the REAL ID stuff (I think Congress passed it in 2006) was about the move towards a national/federal ID to replace all state IDs, and that it was about fighting the eternal enemy - terrorism.

Bingo. And, I’d bet, you had those Fascists wrapping themselves in the protective flag of Patriotism at the same time.

Funny how that (C) ‘logic’ works...must be why it’s so close to (D) (alphabetically, of course /s)

To fly, you need one of these:

Driver’s licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent)
U.S. passport
U.S. passport card
DHS trusted traveler cards (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)
U.S. military ID (active duty or retired military and their dependents, and DoD civilians)
Permanent resident card
Border crossing card
DHS-designated enhanced driver’s license
Federally recognized, tribal-issued photo ID
HSPD-12 PIV card
Foreign government-issued passport
Canadian provincial driver’s license or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada card
Transportation worker identification credential
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Employment Authorization Card (I-766)
U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential

If you don’t qualify for any of these, or you just don’t want to bother, you can ride the dog or ride the rails. (Amtrak rules here: https://www.amtrak.com/passenger-identification)

Your travel is not restricted, only the mode.

In Texas we had to prove citizenship to get our licence. We needed a birth certificate for a State ID or drivers’licence.

“... Did you actually READ THE POST...What a Maroon.”

I read the article and then went to the DHS web site to see the list of acceptable identification.

This is the current list from the DHS. It includes “DHS-designated enhanced driver’s license”.

If you go to the DHS web site on this, you will see a large notice about the change in requirements next year.

You lazy, ignorant, illiterate moron.
