In addition, Canada elected to be a ‘salad bowl’ instead of a melting pot. This resulted in self-isolated immigrant communities living as if still in their country of origin.

This had to degrade significantly the feeling of belonging to a Canadian nation, and indeed it did. Now Canadians complain about the absence of Canadian nationalism and bemoan the lack of cohesion that forms a united people.
