OT, but we visited the Fallen Firefignters Memorial in Colo Springs yesterday. It's really hard seeing all the names of the fallen IAFF fire fighters, but especially hard when you come to the 9/11 section. Lots of tears there.
Thanks so much for the picture. I feel for the guys trying to fight these wild fires. It is more dangerous on average than what we city firefighters had to face during my career. And a lot of them get paid very little.
The last wild fire I was assigned to I ended up crawling through poison oak on a steep hillside and got a big clump of it under my T-shirt where it rubbed against my skin for a good long while we were running around and busy. I got so much of the oil absorbed into my skin that my problems went systemic and had serious difficulties for weeks and had to be put on prednisone. Then the prednisone triggered a bad bout of what is called central serous retinopathy which is basically bumps on the inside of your retna. It caused me to be legally blind for a period of time. Fortunately it was not permanent all though I still have some residual issues on occasion.
