It’s because we are the middle of a postal plebiscite on same sex marriage - we get to vote on whether the government legalises it or not. That’s a political campaign, so any advertisement that may influence the vote way or the other has to carry an authorisation naming a specific person as authorising the ad.
The television networks believes the Australian Electoral Commission would regard this as political enough to require that authorisation. They are probably correct.
The people who put the ad together say they can’t afford to re-edit it with an authorisation message.
Hearing this is like a slide back to the hideous homo-this-that-and-everything crap we had to live through not so long ago.
