No, it’s real.

It’s because we are the middle of a postal plebiscite on same sex marriage - we get to vote on whether the government legalises it or not. That’s a political campaign, so any advertisement that may influence the vote way or the other has to carry an authorisation naming a specific person as authorising the ad.

The television networks believes the Australian Electoral Commission would regard this as political enough to require that authorisation. They are probably correct.

The people who put the ad together say they can’t afford to re-edit it with an authorisation message.

Aw geezus, so many of us want to believe that Australia is one of the final redoubts of rational thinking, manly men, and hot women that like men.

Hearing this is like a slide back to the hideous homo-this-that-and-everything crap we had to live through not so long ago.

Guess we thought you guys would be immune to that lunacy.
