I don’t conform to traditional gender norms either, since I couldn’t care less about most sports and I’m all thumbs with most mechanical issues. Nonetheless, I DO know that I’m still a dude.
How did they define “gender norms” in order for elementary-schoolers to decide whether they “conform”? Did they give them a long list of interests, behaviors and tastes exclusively for the masculine gender and the same for the feminine gender? If so, it was probably out of date: the box you have to fit in to “conform” to your “gender” gets smaller every day.
(Or did they test the students on Latin or Greek declensions and discover that they don’t know “gender” from a hole in the head?)
