They're learning all sorts of things. For one, it's cold at the North pole. For another, there seems to be a relationship between temperature and the formation of ice. Water appears to be involved as well. Who wouldn't pony up a few mil to do that sort of fundamental science?

I don’t even have to go looking for stories, like journalists used to have to do in the old days. They just sail right past my nose like this latest dumb-assed Arctic failure expedition just did... About the only people covering this stuff are skeptical bloggers. Most of the mainstream media are looking away, pretending it’s not happening...

What I like best about this is getting called a "science denier" for suggesting that there's ice at the North pole. What I like least is the prospect of paying for a rescue expedition.

THAT was a GREAT catch. My wife read that item to me off the web; and I later saw it myself, but I failed to make the sea level link.
