What the 1986 Amnesty set in motion in California. Made much worse by the ‘Make America Mexico’ Bush Republicans

Open Borders Republicans fall into two categories. The first (and probably most of them) represent short-term business interests and short-sightedly want open borders for the sake of cheap immigrant labor. I suspect this was the main motive behind the 1980's Reagan amnesty.

The second type is much worse because it can't be reasoned with. It's the type of Republican (McCain, the Bushes) who use their support of amnesty and open borders as a form of virtue signaling to the liberal establishment. It's their way of saying "Hey, we might disagree on taxes or what not, but I'm on your side against those deplorables."

What they’re too stupid to understand is that you can’t have a US economy and infrastructure if you have Mexican culture and Mexican style institutions

Yes, agree with all that.

Still, I don't see where it's any different from modern Mexico.

The place simply would not exist without the U.S. next door.

It would have been invaded and taken over long ago. In 1960 there were only 35 million Mexicans.

There are now 140 million +. And about 40 million of them live in the U.S., or more.

All in 57 years.

If it were not for the fact that they live essentially under the U.S. nuclear umbrella, and feed off the scraps from the U.S. table economically, these people would have never been born, would not have been able to control their own destiny in any way, and most likely Spanish would not be spoken there but perhaps French or Chinese, likely the latter.

They do want exactly what you said - to occupy the Southwest, live as Mexicans, control the politics such that they get to force the hated Gringos to give them money - but Mexico has that now. The only difference is that they aren't ALL "legal" citizens of the United States.

But they have managed through propaganda campaigns, Mexican government interference in our politics, and outright violence to blur that distinction to the point where illegal aliens from Mexico are now accorded essentially more rights then Americans in America.

They now control Southern California politically. Could anyone have imagined that in 1960? The first LAPD patrolman who was Mexican ethnicity was hired in 1948 - a female who was just a clerk. It was considered unthinkable then, because they weren't considered part of the nation.

They now insist that not only are they part of it, but they have a right to determine America's future.

And because 70% of the Mexican populace is Mestizo - mixed race European and Aztec (by far the dominant Indian group), they can simply scream "racism!" if anyone opposes them.

So to me it's hard to see a difference - one group of Mexicans live in nicer houses and have more money then another, but the ones across the line are still essentially wards of the American state.

Without us, they disappear.

But they keep working on that so....they're committing suicide. Unfortunately, it means we're gone too.

The worst kind of parasite is one that kills the host.

That's Mexico.

You’re right on that point. Without American scraps to sponge off of (via remittances, NAFTA, etc), Mexico would at best be a much bigger version of Guatemala or Honduras. And even those much poorer Central American countries would be far more impoverished and lawless than they are already if it weren’t for foreign aide and special trade agreements with the US.
